PS5 Outsells SNES - Sales
by William D'Angelo , posted on 02 February 2024 / 12,050 ViewsSony's latest video game console, the PlayStation 5,which is part of the ninth generation of video game consoles, has outsold the lifetime sales of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), according to VGChartz estimates.
The PS5 had sold an estimated 52.96 million units worldwide through December 2023, while the SNES sold 49.10 million units lifetime.
Up next for the PS5 is the Xbox One with 57.96 million units sold, followed by the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) with 61.91 million units sold and the Nintendo 3DS with 75.94 million units sold.
Breaking down sales by region, the PS5 has sold an estimated 20.56 million units in North America, 17.38 million units in Europe, 4.97 million units in Japan, and 9.74 million units in the rest of the world. This compared to the SNES, which sold 22.88 million units in North America, 8.15 million units in Europe, 17.17 million units in Japan, and 0.90 million units in the rest of the world.
Breaking down PS5 Europe sales, the console has sold an estimated 3.65 million units in the UK, 2.95 million units in Germany, and 2.89 million units in France.
The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020.
