A brand-new entry in the beloved Mana series, Visions of Mana is the first mainline instalment in more than 15 years. Visions of Mana will return to the series action RPG roots and take players on a new adventure with protagonist Val, a soul guard assigned to protect his childhood friend, who has been chosen by the Faerie as the Alm of Fire to travel to the Tree of Mana and rejuvenate the mana flow.

Square Enix released a new trailer which provides a first look at the newly imagined world of Mana in the all-new Visions of Mana. The trailer features action-packed gameplay and showcases a vibrant world where players will be able to journey across a range of breathtaking environments, battle with an array of enemies and monsters, including fan-favorite Rabites, while exploring a world where the powers of nature and elemental spirits connect. Fans and newcomers alike will also get to experience new and evolved gameplay with real-time 3D combat.

Since the series’ debut in 1991 as Final Fantasy Adventure, a spin-off of the Final Fantasy series, Mana games have immersed players in bright vibrant worlds, breathtaking environments, heartwarming characters and high fantasy storylines across many genres and platforms. Fans of the series can expect new designs of the series’ beloved creatures from Mana series Illustrator Airi Yoshioka and a new captivating musical score composed by Mana series composers Hiroki Kikuta, Tsuyoshi Sekito and Ryo Yamazaki.

To celebrate the reveal of Visions of Mana, popular series artist HACCAN created new teaser artwork which gives players a glimpse of the iconic Tree of Mana against one of the game’s enchanting vistas and a variety of the heartwarming characters that players can expect to encounter within the game.

I imagine it will undoubtedly be announced for Switch 2 as well since it's on PS4.
They just can't say anything until Nintendo announce the system.

it looks like they are targeting the PS4's power level for this game, which would be strange in 2024 without the Switch 2 coming

I don't think a Switch 2 is even necessary for this game. This doesn't look like it couldn't run on current hardware. I imagine a Switch version could be announced at the next Direct.

Yeah, not neccesary, but it would take more effort and money to do. Meanwhil we can expect that PS4 ports to Switch 2 would be comparatively effortless, and without compromising the game's vision (pun intended) on top of that. It's an action rpg, so if they're going for 60fps, they can surely retain that with DLSS.

Eiyuden Chronicle's producer once said in Q&A that they're unsure if they will do a Switch version for it, and were considering Switch 2, because the "programing language for Switch is completely different from PS4/XBO, so its almost like recoding the game from scratch".

Time/cost seems to be a bigger factor than if it can be done with good results. They have since announced a Switch port, but that piece of info was interesting.

They are insane...how can someone explain to me that the 135 millions Switch users are not currently the best potential market for this type of game.

Switch has very weak hardware. You'd have to seriously compromise the design of the game.

In this video there was nothing, absolutely nothing, that the Switch couldn't handle.

Even Hoyoverse haven't ported Genshin Impact (a mobile game!) to Switch. There have to be some technical issues. It really doesn't make sense with such a big install base.

I agree, it doesn't make sense. I guess there will be a Switch port of Genshin Impact at some point.

Look at the video from 2:51. You really think the current switch could handle a smouth 30 fps framerate with that amount of particules effects?

GoOnKid leftalone (on 19 January 2024)

Um... yes? This looks almost exactly like Dragon Quest 11 . Monster Hunter Rise is much prettier than this. Even Super Mario Odyssey is more impressive than this. I don't know what your point is. And speaking about particle effects, check out Astral Chain.

I 've played Astral Chain... you must be very intellectually dishonest to claim that this game is on the same level...

The only dishonesty I see here is the claim that this shown footage is very demanding. Be real for a second.

Garrus GoOnKid (on 19 January 2024)

i don't think that is true, they've gone more open world this time, and you can see how Zelda barely functioned on the Switch with much worse visuals and low frame rate and resolutions than this trailer

  • -3
GoOnKid Garrus (on 20 January 2024)

Barely functioned. Yeah, right.

low resolution and low frame rate, i'm excited to give TOTK a try again AFTER the Switch 2 comes out

Keep in mind that the Switch has a lower attach ratio and half of its software sales are Nintendo's. It's not as attractive to third parties as these sales numbers seem to imply.

On the other hand, they're releasing it on Xbox Series too, so... yeah.

it is hard to get through their heads, but the "current gen" gaming market is 4 times larger than the portable market, that's why people buy home consoles, they are faster, cheaper, and the market is 4 times larger once you add up PC + PS5 + Xbox as one group

Switch does not make any money for western devs, it only helps some japanese 3rd parties

GoOnKid Garrus (on 20 January 2024)

Some japanaese 3rd parties like Square Enix, right?

yes

It's possible there is a Switch 1 version saved for a future direct. But if Square Enix were informed of a Switch 2 in due time, they may opt for that instead.
The reason is probably effort/cost.

(I'll copy/paste what I said in another comment.)

I think we can assume that porting it to Switch 2 would comparatively be rather effortless, and take a normal amount of effort/money.

Playing through that and the excellent Secret of Mana game on PS4 via plus. Which, funny enough, I have been playing on my Portal... so when people in the comments are complaining about Switch, I have to agree... these games are PERFECT for portables.

The Mana series is a fading one for me. I've enjoyed the nostalgic and fun when it was Secret of Mana with 3 players, even the PS4 remake. But with their 1 player Mana games it just feels like a mediocre adventure game to me. I'll still keep it on my radar but it seems likely that i'll either get it when its dirt cheap or just wait for it to be free on PS Plus.

It's been worse than fading for me since the SNES games. But I also haven't played Trials of Mana yet. Which I'm sure is fine, but mainly because as you pointed out, it doesn't have the co-op that I very much enjoyed from the originals.
This game however clearly has a bigger budget than that game, and they're at least signaling that the intent is a return to form for the series. So I have my hopes up for it.

Visions of Mana definitely looks like it has a bigger budget and looking to be very well polished. To me, looking at the trailer it feels like Square is hoping to push this to be their own Zelda Botw.

But I'll just wait and see still since Trials wasn't that amazing. Wish they brought back coop since Square does enough single player games. And FF Crystal Chronicles remaster wasn't that great when I played with my friends.
