The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Switch.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Now the PS5 has some real competition in terms of speed and depth.
Speed: Can the PS5 sell as quickly as the Switch did?
Depth: And if it can't sell as quickly, can the PS5 sell as much as the Switch did?

The PS5 can't beat the Switch but it will beat the PS4 which is already a great result if you consider that the PS5 is a much more expensive console and doesn't have the portability of the Switch. my guess is that the ps5 will sell 130 million in its lifetime

That sounds about right the very least from here is PS4 numbers, the very best it can hope for is something close to the Switch sales minus the covid boost all said and done the Ps5 it will most likely land somewhere in the middle of those.

PS5 wasn't able to close the gap during the holidays like past years so the aligned will keep a healthy difference between both systems until very close to Switch replacement (that if PS5 manage to outsell/tie even in 10 years after now).

For the Switch its March 2020 now on this chart, which means for the next two years Switch is gonna trounce PS5 on this chart.
