This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 3.
The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006 in North America and Japan and in March 2007 in Europe. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

November 2023 is the 37th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 3 by 1.51 million units.
In the last 12 months, the PS5 has grown its lead over the PS3 by 9.27 million units. The PlayStation 5 is currently ahead by 19.90 million units.
The PlayStation 5 has sold 48.93 million units in 37 months, while the PlayStation 3 sold 29.03 million units. Month 37 for the PlayStation 5 is November 2023 and for the PlayStation 3 is November 2009.
The PlayStation 3 did not reach current PlayStation 5 sales until month 53 where it had sold 49.87 million units.
The PlayStation 3 crossed 30 million in month 38, 40 million in month 47, and 50 million in month 54. The PlayStation 3 sold 87.4 million units lifetime. The PS5 is 35.77 million units behind lifetime PS3 sales.

So by week 37, the PS3 had sold 35% of its lifetime total.
If we apply the same ratio to the PS5, we get almost exactly 140 million. This would put it above the PS4 and nearly equal to the Switch. Unless something magical happens I see it falling short of the PS2 and NDS. Let me go look up the PS4 vs PS5 comparison chart and do a similar calculation.
Maybe Gta6 will be such a big launch that applying that logic won't work for the ps5. The trailer has smashed all records and we all know most people are going to want a ps5/ps5 pro for it
Wouldn't most people want to play it on PC? I understand if they want the game early to get it on PS5 Pro.

It's not coming to PC for awhile . Who is just going to sit back and wait?
Nope. Most are going to buy it on PS5.
