The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 launched in the US in November 2005, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Normally you end these comparisons if the the "end-of-life" sales are passed but on this one I think it would be interesting to keep up with it for a few months due to the X360's performance in later years.

Switch is guaranteed to pass the X360s total in December but even though it can't "win" I am curious how much X360 can gain in month 85/86.

Do we think that Switch will sell at least 3M this Holiday to reach 45M?

Last 2 years Nov + Dec has been about 2.4m. Unless there is some special deal or price-cut it's going to be more like ~2.2m, finishing the year about 44.5m

Thanks! That's impressive data there. Cool, I hope Switch can get close to that 2.2M then.
