The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

10 million lead. Wow. Those initial years for the wii were bonkers.

Yes they were. And I remember many folks on here at the time claiming that Nintendo was just employing the illusion of scarcity to make it look like the Wii was having a successful run. This head to head shows just how much work Nintendo had to put into manufacturing to keep up with demand, especially after the Gamecube which only sold 22 million in its entire run.

I'm still not sure if PS5 is able to outsell Wii during the upcoming holidays...

This holiday the gap will most likely stay the same or even become a bit bigger. After the holiday, the PS5 should be able to gain in on the Wii though.
