The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned European sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Wii.

The Wii launched in Europe in December 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

So that 0.25 million should be easy to hit, right?

The Will probably will be surpassed by the Switch in September

Switch doesn't even need another holiday season to outsell Wii in Europe... :-) But I guess there's no way that Switch outsells Game Boy (40.05M). Not even think about outselling PS4, Nintendo DS and PS2 in Europe.

Europe seems to be the main place holding the switch back from becoming the best selling console ever.

It is a rather large gap and closing that will get tough, but I wouldn't say that it's impossible.

Switch should be at 35M+ at the end of the year, if the sales don't fall off a cliff™ next year then it has a big chance to overtake the Gameboy in 2025. Switch sold 5M+ every year so far in Europe apart of the first two ones, and while I rekon that sales will certainly slow down next year it will still get the Switch within striking distance of the Gameboy by end of 2024.
