This monthly series compares the aligned Europe sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

June 2023 is the 32nd month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 6,774 units.
In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 1.97 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 5.08 million units.
The PS5 has sold 12.09 million units in 32 months, while the PS4 sold 17.17 million units. Month 32 for the PS5 is June 2023 and for the PS4 is June 2016.
The PS4 crossed 20 million units sold in Europe in month 37, 30 million in month 51, and 40 million in month 72. The PS4 has sold 45.84 million units to date in Europe. The PS5 is 33.75 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in Europe.

So far PS5 isn't able to catch up with PS4 in Europe like it was the case worldwide.
With the PS5 not really catching up to the PS4 and the Switch still not having overtaken the Wii total sales in Europe, something tells me that console gaming isn't as popular in Europe anymore.
Considering how much Steam player counts have risen over the last couple years, my guess is that Europe is going back to PC gaming like they did until the 90's.
Switch needs less than a million to surpass the Wii in Europe. It should do it before the holidays.
True, but by that point the Switch will have outsold the Wii by over 30M worldwide, showing that it's not as popular in Europe to play consoles anymore.
That is a significant gap. I suspect it won’t ever catch up to the PS4 in Europe.
