The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo DS.

3.2 millions to go... that should be in the bag considering how well the Switch is still selling and an all-new 2D Mario being on the way

It's really wild to me that we will get a new leader in Japan sales. I really thought the DS (and very close behind GB) numbers would be unbeatable.

If Nintendo does what I am really hoping they do - make a true Switch successor that has full backwards-compatibility with the Switch library - it gives people a TON of reason to continue buying Switch hardware, knowing their library will go with them later on. At that point, a theoretical Switch 2 could be launched at $299, the current Switch and Switch OLED are retired, and the Switch Lite drops down to $149 to continue adding to those sales numbers.
