This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.
The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

June 2023 is the 32nd month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox Series X|S when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox 360 by 13,789 units.
In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 9,317 units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 171,038 units.
The Xbox Series X|S has sold 474,079 units in 32 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 645,117 units. Month 32 for the Xbox Series X|S is June 2023 and for the Xbox 360 is July 2008.
The Xbox 360 crossed one million units in month 40 and 1.5 million units in month 67. The Xbox 360 sold 1.66 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 1.19 million units behind lifetime Xbox 360 sales.

Interesting chart. Well, they've beat the OG Xbox and the Xbox One in Japan, and they're not crazy far off the 360 pace there. But I still think the price increase in Japan was a mistake, even if it was just a currency conversion adjustment. At least they're not raising the Series X price there in August, like they are in many territories.
It's not going to make a difference. Nothing they do will make the Series a success in Japan, and they know it. From their standpoint, taking a loss on the units they're selling isn't worth a brief bump of a few hundred or a few thousand units. They still have to make money.
I'd argue the reverse. If they're going to sell so few units, then they're not leaving much money on the table, so why take the public relations "L"?
