The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and Wii.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the Nintendo Wii launched in November 2006. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

Had similar looking charts against PS4. Wii sold amazingly I’m it’s first few years, but when it fell off, it fell off hard. Goes without say that PS5 will easily outsell Wii lifetime.

The Wii was a sales beast. While the general myth about hardware sales is that it sold well for two years, then dropped off; the reality is it sold well for five years, and extraordinary for about three of those five years.

You say it is a myth. You say "it wasn't for just 2 years, it was for 3 years". um... So you're saying the Wii sold really well for 3 years, and then much worse afterwards. So the myth is real. Nobody said the myth was just for 2 years.

Relabeling "selling well" and "selling poorly" to "selling extraordinarily" and "selling well" is just a trick of the brain. You're really torturing yourself here.
