If PS5 doesn't get in front of Switch after this holiday period, it probably never will.
It never will. So many people, like myself, lost interest in it. Especially being ruined by scalpers.
what do scalpers have to do with sales?
Thats obvious. In the 1st near 18 months of PS5s lifespan they fed into its unavailability to actual gaming fans who would feed into the PS ecosystem. For some customers, when they cant get what they want they either seek alternatives or lose interest altogether. So scalpers have definitely impacted sales to an undetermined degree.
PS5 managed to close the gap by over a million units but it's still got a long battle if it's ever gonna catch up to Switch.
Yeah, I really don't think it ever will. I think the only chance it would have, is if Sony is really aggressive in 2023 with a price cut/redesign. If they released the new, PS5 Digital Slim for $299, along with the PS5 Disc Slim for $349 (with the external BD disc drive add-on being $79, for upgrading the digital; you see I'm factoring in a discount if you buy the add-on bundle to begin with) - then maybe, possibly it could spur some big-time sales along with Spider-Man 2. But I just don't see Sony being that aggressive.
Yeah a $300 PS5 is never going to happen, nor will PS5 ever pass the Switch. It will probably still outsell the Wii though, so its prospects are still good.
Agreed. I think the Wii is a much better target to aim for since even hitting 100 million isn't guaranteed.
The PS5 should be able to pass the Switch at least one more time without any price drops. And it wouldn't surprise me if it outsells it lifetime coz the odds are this will be a very long generation. I don't get why PS5 keeps getting underestimated like this. If it weren't for the shortage, it would have been well ahead of Switch at this point.
