The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned European sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Wii.

The Wii launched in December 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Switch Vs. Wii Europe:

January 2022 is the 59th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Europe. During the latest month, the Switch caught up by 130,671units when you align the launches of it with the Wii. In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the Wii by just 1.70 million units. The Wii is currently ahead of the Switch by 1.55 million units.

The 97th month for the Nintendo Switch is January 2022 and for the Wii it is October 2011. The Switch has sold 27.45 million units, while the Wii sold 29.00 million units during the same timeframe. The Wii sold current Switch sales in month 53.

The Wii sold 33.88 million units in Europe during its lifetime. The Switch needs to sell another 6.43 million units to outsell the Wii.

Europe should probably be passed early 2023, a bit after it gets passed in the US, and then the Switch domination of the Wii shall be complete.

Same as in the US. Switch is a good margin behind Wii, although it has surpassed Wii in worldwide sales due to better sales in rest of the world.
