Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Absolutely Very, Very Much Focused on Gaming' - News

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in the company's annual shareholders meeting with investors was asked what Microsoft was working on to set the Xbox Series X|S apart from the PS5 to win the console war.

"We're very excited about the new console launches in the market, said Nadella. "We always have sort of focused on ensuring that our gamer community that counts on us to produce the best consoles has a new generation of consoles, which are powerful and really great for gameplay. And we are supporting it with the best content with the best community.

"But the broader vision we have is to ensure that the 3 billion gamers out there are able to play their games, anywhere they want with all the content they want and with whom they want to. And that's really what we are building our strategy around.

"You've seen us double our content portfolio with ZeniMax acquisition, you see us make advances in our community efforts and our subscription offers with Game Pass. And that's what you can expect from us.

Microsoft CEO: 'We Are Absolutely Very, Very Much Focused on Gaming'

"We are absolutely very, very much focused on gaming, and ensuring that all the 3 billion gamers around the world get the best content, best community and the best cloud services to power their gaming experiences going forward."

Microsoft announced in September it was working on acquiring Bethesda parent company ZeniMax in a $7.5 billion deal that is expected to close in 2021. Microsoft has stated since then they are not done acquiring more video game developers.

The Xbox Series X|S launched to a record with the biggest launch in Xbox history. The Xbox Series X|S sold an estimated 1,345,386 units worldwide in its launch week, according to VGChartz estimates.

Flex that money Microsoft. Don't be soft. Give Sony some pressure. I want a hungrier Sony :)

Agreed. Increased competition in the sector is better for us all.

Glad to know Xbox has the entire corporation behind them. More studios plz, love that asset denial.

Microsoft unfortunately is just trying the easy route. Buy games to put on game pass by buying publishers and developers. They have lately spent more time buying games versus making them. And they have Crackdown and Sea of Thieves to show for it. While Sony and Nintendo actually just make “quality” games backed by talent not just a big corporation’s purchasing power. With the exception of Sony acquiring developers they’ve had a life long relationship with like Sucker Punch and recently Insomniac.

So you rather ignore all the other games they made and just nit picked 2 games out of the many this gen? BTW Sea of thieves is a great game.

2020 felt like the first year in ages imo where xbox ended on a really good note overall game/hardware wise (so much so that it got me into the xbox ecosystem for the first time) so if this is just the start of what them having "full backing" means then these are exciting times, just means more great games for everyone

Let's see how much of the 3B gamers they can reach.

He mentioned the " 3 billion gamers around the world" again. That is not a good sign for me and their performance in games in the last few years dont help at all.

"We are supporting it with the best content" - Here we go again with that classic MS marketing arrogance. They think they have the best software lineup? Really? They are miles behind Nintendo and Sony when it comes to 1st party content.

Your opinion is outdated. They have the most studios between the 3 and Bethesda certainly gives them a huge boost. They are entitled to make this claim now.

I doubt they have the most studios. Even if they did quality beats quantity, and many studios output twice as many games as others.

P.S. PS5 has 3 great exclusives so far with a fourth coming in April. Meanwhile Series X doesn't even have a single launch title worth mentioning. I get it. MS bought a bunch of studios. Let's wait and see if they do anything with them, instead of counting our chickens before they hatch, eh?

23 studios beats 14. The IP power Bethesda brings is no small feat either. Just saying the PR is arguable. Also I’m glad you changed your profile pic. I always confused you for Runa lol.

Those 23 studios have produced a whole lot of nothing, yet we have to take their word that the games are coming and they will beat sonys in both quality and quantity? With their track record I would hold on making such claims. There's literally nothing that would give credit to this claim.

Read the article. Ensuring the “get” the best content. Not have. They meant future tense. Hence they aren’t wrong to be confident.

Most of the studios do have a track record of delivering great content. All of the Zenimax studios do, as do the other studios they've recently purchased. Then there are several homegrown studios with great games on their resumes (think Halo, Gears, Forza, Forza Horizon).

It is certainly true that MS dropped the ball last gen. But, let's not make nonsense comments about their 23 studios not having delivered a bunch of great content. They undeniably have done so.

@VAMatt

343? Yes, but only if you can stomach GaaS and MTX.
Coalition? See above.
Doublefine? Nothing new and good in 10 years.
Obsidian? Hell, yes!
Bethesda? Of course, but likely coming to PS5 eventually.
Compulsion games? Nope. They are trash.
Rare? Nope. They have potential, but aren't quite there yet.
InXile? Yes, but just Wasteland series. Their other games got panned by critics.
Ninja Theory. Hell yes!
Playground games? Yes, but just Forza. I doubt that will translate well to Fable Remake.
The Initiative? Hopefully.
Undead Labs? Nah, they are trash.
Turn 10? Yes, but just Forza. You don't need 6 racing games per gen. Have them make something else every once in a while.

My comment was more for Eva, talking about "a whole lot of nothing". That's just not close to accurate.

Now even this guy? More and more I see MS going after the casual market making GaaS lower quality titles full of mxt to try and reach mobile markets.

Sea of Thieves had its biggest year in 2020. GaaS games aren’t inherently bad, nor are Xbox only making those.
