PS5 is Backward Compatible With '99 Percent' of PS4 Library - News

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with The Washington Post revealed PlayStation 5 is backward compatible with "99 percent" of the PlayStation 4 library.
Sony also announced PlayStation Plus Collection for the PlayStation 5, which offers 18 PS4 titles for download for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
"The PS4 community will continue to be incredibly important to us for three or four years," Ryan added. "Many will transition to PS5, we hope if we do our job well, but tens of millions will still be engaged with the PS4."
The PlayStation 5 will launch on November 12 in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, and in Europe and the rest of the world on November 19.
The PlayStation 5 will be priced at $499.99/¥49,980/€499.99/£449.99, while the Digital Edition will be priced at $399.99/¥39,980/€399.99/£359.99.

More reasons I need that disc version Sony PS5! I still have my Sony PS3 so I don't mind if Sony PS5 can't play Sony PS3 games. I need my whole PS4 libary playable!
Seems like if 99% work, it would be simple to actually specify the 1% that don't work...?
Or maybe it's more covering their backs as they've tested and played lots but not all, so if one is buggy then back covered.

Yep. In theory, everything should be compatible I bet, but who knows if some game out there exploited some hardware quirk that can't be fully reproduced in the PS5.
They just don't say 100% because there may be one or another that don't and they don't want to open themselves to lawsuits, but I guess you try to look for the negative right? Why don`t you ask them to list those titles or say the exact number?
We already knew this, but it is important to confirm so deniers can stop complaining perhaps.
Will those games run under ps4 pro settings or ps4 settings?
Games that are "Playstation 4 Pro Enhanced" and employ a dynamic resolution scaler should look better on Playstation 5 than the Playstation 4 Pro with better framerates and load times.
Thank you both, thats some really good news. It will also be nice for a few games that have the framerate unlocked like dark souls 3 or the performance mode of witcher 3. Cant wait to see the tests.
This was confirmed long ago. PS5 have both compatibility mode, so if a game have PS4Pro version it will use that. Not to forget there will be option for patches and also automatic improvements as well.
I assume they work the same as with the PS4, just put the disc in and install it, and play.
Haven`t seem any official information if there will directly play from the disc or if it will download a version, I think it is the former.
