All Xbox One Games Will Work on Xbox Series X [Updated]

All Xbox One Games Will Work on Xbox Series X [Updated] - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 02 September 2020 / 7,788 Views

Updated:

Microsoft has since deleted the original tweet and released a new one updating their plans when it comes to Backwards Compatible games running on the Xbox Series X. They now say "thousands" of Xbox One games will be playable on the Xbox Series X at launch.

"Correction: To date, we’ve spent over 100K hours testing your favorite games from Xbox One, including existing backward compatible 360 & OG Xbox games, on Xbox Series X," reads the tweet. "While we are still in the process of validating, we can confirm thousands of games will be playable at launch."

Original:

The official Xbox Twitter account announced all Xbox One games and all currently Xbox 360 and original Xbox Backwards Compatible games will be playable on Microsoft's next generation console, the Xbox Series X.

This news follows the announcement from Sony that most of the top 100 most payed PlayStation 4 titles will be playable on the PS5 at launch.

Microsoft earlier this week revealed the complete specs for the Xbox Series X, as well as diving into the details of the changes to the Xbox controller for the Xbox Series X and revealing the dimensions for the console.

The Xbox Series X will launch in Holiday 2020.

Over 100,000 hours, no wonder the new games list is barren. Well if thats what you want.

@jabba currently we have 4 confirmed Series X games to PS5s 0. Ori released recently and Bleeding Edge shortly. Gears tactics in April. We fine :)

Doing a great job with backwards compatibility.

Good on MS. That's the way you do it.

Hynad Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

Indeed. Same way Sony does it! :D

Zenos Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

@Hynad Unlike Sony they will have much more games at launch, but I'm sure they appreciate your damage control.

Hynad Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

Damage control? How is Sony’s approach different from MS?
You are making it clear that you are simply baiting and trolling.

  • +1
Zenos Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

@Hynad Do I need to spell out that my initial comment was made before the update and it said that all Xbox One games will be playable on the new system, or are you being dishonest?

As for the approach - we don't fully know yet since neither company have explained in detail how BC will work. We only know the promised numbers.

  • +3
Hynad Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

But your comment to me says I’m doing damage control. How so, if my comment is made after both your display of ignorance and Sony’s explanations?

  • 0
DonFerrari Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

It was explained. PS4 logic is inside the silicon of PS5, and it will run with boosted frequency and resolution, but you refuse to accept for whatever reason.

  • 0
Zenos Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

@Hynad Isn't it obvious? Xbox announced that they will have full BC with XBone, unlike PS4, which will only have a 100 or so BC games at launch you declare that they are doing the same thing, which is the damage control in question. Even after the clarification from both parties what you said is demonstrably false by the sheer number of promised games.

  • -1
Zenos Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

@DonFerrari Oh, look. It's the dishonest console partisan again. What a surprise. And yet again you fail.

PS4 logic on the PS5 motherboard doesn't explain how BC will work. Will the discs be compatible? How about the digital PS4 games - will you be able to download or transfer them on the PS5? Will this apply to game saves? When you have answers to those feel free to clarify.

Hynad Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

There will be more than 100 games playable through BC at launch. I understood that even when it was first mentioned by Cerny.

But by saying they’re doing the same, I mean that the solution is the same. They are testing the games to see if they work as is under a similar yet much more powerful architecture.

It would a good idea if you refrained from talking about anything Sony related considering you always do so to stir shit, bait and troll.

Zenos Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

@Hynad "There will be more than 100 games playable through BC at launch." - not confirmed. Citation needed.

"But by saying they're doing the same, I mean that the solution is the same." - how can you possibly say that given that we have no idea how either console will implement BC?

"It would a good idea if you refrained from talking about anything Sony related considering you always do so to stir shit, bait and troll." - of course, Your Majesty! I will not have any negative opinions on Sony now that you ordered me to do so! Get over yourself. I express my position on a given policy regardless of the company involved. You not liking when I do it to Sony is entirely your problem.

  • -2
DonFerrari Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

You are being the one dishonest. PS5 is PS4 BC with almost all games expected to work fine and boosted by Sony themselves. You keep pretending it will be only 100 games. Cerny was explicity that they had already tested the top 100 in boosted and almost all worked, then hours later Sony post that they already done thousands of hours of test and almost all games should work fine.
You want to ask if you can use same disc or PSN will accept what you already got you can as that haven't been explicitly said (but it is pretty obvious they will, if not it isn't BC it is a shady porting). But your posts weren't on that direction.

Bla bla bla. Whatever you tell yourself to find sleep. You’re as obvious as any other oblivious hater.

Keep going, you are slowly but surely digging your own grave.

"Bla bla bla. " - nice response to all the points I made. This is pretty much what I expected.

"Keep going, you are slowly but surely digging your own grave." - oh, so now you want me to die, huh? And you are saying that I'm a hater. Oh, the irony.

  • -1
Zenos Zenos (on 21 March 2020)

@DonFerrari "You keep pretending it will be only 100 games." - never said that, you liar. Or did you purposely missed the words "AT LAUNCH" again in my post?

"then hours later Sony post that they already done thousands of hours of test" - on those 100 or games.

"and almost all games should work fine" - should've would've could've. This is damage control after the 100 games statement and it's not saying anything concrete.

"You want to ask if you can use same disc or PSN will accept what you already got you can as that haven't been explicitly said " - oh, look! Finally some honest representation of what I'm saying and admission that we don't know how BC will work and to what extent.

"But your posts weren't on that direction." -aaaaand you failed again.

This is the Generation where I started buying digital, I currently have over 130 games on XB1 and it will grow. Can’t tell you the amount of relief that I feel knowing that all of my purchases will be coming with me next gen and willl also all be receiving a free performance boost as well.

XSX day one for me.

VAMatt (on 20 March 2020)

I wonder if they will resume the backwards compatibility program for Xbox 360 and original Xbox games.

  • +6
DonFerrari VAMatt (on 20 March 2020)

They said they would as soon they did iron out XSX.

SecondWar (on 20 March 2020)

I’m also holding out hope a few more OG Xbox are made BC with the XSX. I’m hoping for Simpsons Hit and Run and Timesplitters 2.

  • +6
DonFerrari (on 20 March 2020)

That was obvious, and there isn't 100% BC.

  • +1
EspadaGrim DonFerrari (on 21 March 2020)

Difference being that Xbox will still have the Majority plus the BC will likely resume adding more OG and 360 titles in.

  • +1
DonFerrari DonFerrari (on 21 March 2020)

Have I said anything different? No BC can be assured to be 100%, and yes Xbox will have the OG and X360 while Sony haven't saying anything about PS3 and back.

EnricoPallazzo (on 23 March 2020)

For those saying PS3/PS2 will be added over time for PS5, I really dont think so. Truth is most people wont revisit those games and on top of that those consoles had a totally different architecture which makes a good compatibility very difficult. In the end they will be considering cost/benefit and my guess is that they will focus only on PS4.

thismeintiel (on 20 March 2020)

So, exactly like Sony, now. I expect those same people to bash MS like they did Sony. Guess that won't happen. :-D

  • -6
Azzanation thismeintiel (on 20 March 2020)

Exactly like Sony? 100 PS4 only games to 1000 games spread across 3 generations is the same thing? Oh its you, not suprised with this post than.

  • 0
Azzanation thismeintiel (on 20 March 2020)

Sorry, ill correct myself, all PS4 games will play on PS5.. but no PS1, 2 or 3.. yet Xbox had OG and 360 plus X1 games running on XSX.

  • +1
DonFerrari thismeintiel (on 20 March 2020)

look no further than Zenos, he won't even accept he is wrong.

  • 0
Azzanation thismeintiel (on 21 March 2020)

I am happy to admit when I am wrong and I did post to early however.. the point still stands that they aren't exactly the same yet.. Both systems offering almost full backlog of games from the previous gen however one system is still offering Multi-console BC across 3 different systems. I know Sony will announce the PS3, 2 and 1 sometime during the next generation which explains the space under the PS4 BC heading etc. Until than, we cannot say they are the same.

  • +9
DonFerrari thismeintiel (on 21 March 2020)

No doubt XSX is a more robust BC, even if we put both PS5 and XSX at around the same on last gen BC (or even say PS5 is higher because PSVR is compatible with PS5, while perhaps kinect isn't, still MS said legacy accessories would work so I think even Kinect wil)) XSX will have a lot of X1 and X360 content. I don't think Sony will offer something similar, still for PS1 and PS2 you have the classics for most titles and PS3 is in PSNow, but certainly not as easy or cheap for customers as Xbox solution.
