The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

Switch Vs. PS4 US:

Gap change in latest month: 135,533 – Switch

Gap change over last 12 months: 907,090 – Switch

Total Lead: 2,664,386 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 17,391,542

PS4 Total Sales: 14,727,156

In January the gap in the US between the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 grew in favor of the Switch when you align launches. The Switch sold 135,533 more units than the PlayStation 4 in the last month and 907,090 more units in the last 12 months.  The Switch currently leads by 2.66 million units.

The PlayStation 4 launched in the US on November 15, 2013, while the Nintendo Switch launched on March 3, 2017. The Switch has sold 17.39 million units, while the PlayStation 4 sold 14.73 million units during the same timeframe.

The 35th month on sale for the Nintendo Switch is January 2020, while for the PlayStation 4 it is September 2016.

Makes me happy to see the Switch being so successful in USA.
I look forward to seeing how close it can get to 40 million stateside.

In 3 month PS4 will be at 17.66 million units. So Switch will keep the lead unless being adjusted down heavily. In 15 Month PS4 will be at roughly 23 million units. So Switch only needs to sell 5.6 million units until april 2021 to keep the lead for longer. seems like PS4 will not catch up to switch anytime soon anymore.

Are the January US sales accurate? It was down yoy from last January according to NPD.

This chart normally comes after the monthly NPD, so it's probable that adjustments had been made beforehand.
