The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

November 2019 is the 73rd month that the PlayStation 4 has been available for. During the latest month the gap grew in favor of the Nintendo DS when compared with the PlayStation 4 during the same timeframe. The Nintendo DS has grown its lead over the PlayStation 4 by 201,534 units and in the last 12 months outsold the PlayStation 4 by 7.33 million units. The Nintendo DS currently leads by 31.92 million units.
The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan and March 2005 in Europe, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 103.76 million units, while the Nintendo DS sold 135.68 million units during the same timeframe.
The 73rd month on sale for the PlayStation 4 is November 2019, while for the Nintendo DS it is November 2010.
The Nintendo DS ended up selling 154.02 million units lifetime. The PlayStation 4 needs to sell another 50.26 million units to outsell the Nintendo DS.

I'd expect PS4 to come back on DS a little bit in these later years. It is 32 million down now, I'd guess it'll finish just over 130 million so should pull the DS back to just within 25 million.
I think the roof for PS4 is 120mil but we'll see
So these are the last holidays before the successor arrives (3DS/PS5).
Seeing the PS4 curve which is far to be flat even today, it can sell again for a long time.
I think PS4 will manage to have stronger years after PS5 launches, than DS did after 3DS. I can’t imagine PS4 will sell any less than 130 million, with the right support.
