PS4 Worldwide Hardware Shipments Top 100 Million - Sales

Sony Interactive Entertainment have announced during today's financial results that for the three months ended on June 30th 2019, the PlayStation 4 has shipped an additional 3.2m units during the quarter - bringing total hardware sales for the machine to 100m.
This milestone makes PS4 the fastest selling home console ever to reach the 100m mark (at 5 years 7 months), beating both the PS2 and Wii to this figure.
In addition, the company revealed that further 42.9m units of software were sold (of which 53% were full game digital downloads) and that there are now 36.2m PlayStation Plus subscribers, which is up from 33.9m in the first quarter of 2018.
Despite the good news, the PS4's sales forecast for the upcoming financial year (to 31st March 2020) has been lowered slightly, from an initial projection of 16m to the new figure of 15m, suggesting Sony see the machine's sales slowing down as we approach the next generation.

Absolute Congrats to Sony!, What a come back this has been, surpassing the Wii and PS1 is a given at this point, and surpassing the Gameboy is a possibility as well.

Wait until they release death stranding, the last of us part 2 and ghost of Tsushima. Those three games will boost ps4 hardware sales to surpass ps2
@yo33331 @BraLoD I get ya, i was just being a bit humble with my prediction, (i also thought that by the start of the next fiscal year the PS4 would be at 106 million, but apparently i got that wrong and its instead gonna be at 112 million with Sonys forecast), so yeah surpassing the Gameboy should be in the bag, the PS4 lifetime sales are gonna be above 120 million could even be 130 with a good price cut.

PS5 will most likely be too expensive to many. So Sony will continue to sell ps4 at least the pro version 2 -3 years after the release of ps5 as a cheaper alternative to because many if not all games during those first 3 years will be cross generation. So ps4 will continue to sell and it is more than likely that it will surpass ps2.

They're on sale for less than that very often. So, while there hasn't been an official price cut, I'm sure a large percentage of those units sold for less then MSRP. The same has been true for a few years now, at least in the US.

Took a little longer to report than I expected. Sales are slowing down.
Perfect, now all we need is for the Switch to sell 100M as well and my life will be complete.
Never before has the E3 reveal of a console had such a massive impact on the sales of a system throughout a whole generation, it has to be said Don Mattick done more on that stage for the PS4 than anyone at Sony could ever have achieved with their own conference, part of this 100million unit success has to be attributed to the Don M himself, #welldonedon
Considering Sony have sold more than 100M on 3 of the 4 PS, and the only one to not get there was only 12.5% off and due to high price and other thing Don Mattick can't be credited for Sony success.
It was mostly a joke, meant to be a bit of clever word play on Don revealing the X1 but I don't think I worded it quite correctly for it to come off rightly as humour. In all honesty as well I don't think all the blame on the X1 could fall to Don, he was just the spokes man, sent out on stage to try to sell a turd.
The PS4 though, it's a complete beast of sales and you're right, Sony nailed it with the machine, from hardware designed 100% for gaming, an OS that puts games up front and center and then you couple that with the free games like Fortnite actually being free to play on the PS4 I think made a huge difference for it being the Go To console for where teens and teen+ hung out for at least the first few years of this generation before the Switch stirred the water a bit.
My only slight grip with the PS4, has to come from backwards compat, it's the first playstation system to not play PSone games, even the PSP and Vita both have the ability to get them off their stores, the system can't play cd's and seemingly also lost the psone player, no ps2... ps3, I feel that while it will probably end up being second only to the ps2, the PS4 could have done slightly more awesome than it will end up doing if they had done more early to put the bullet in the ps3 and have BC to get players to jump in straight away and continue playing their ps3 titles on the 4.... that said a lot of early PS4 great selling games were remasters of PS4 games and sales of those would have suffered dramatically if you could just play your ps3 versions of same.
Guess we can only speculate on the past going a different route!

Yes Don have his guilty on the mistakes of X1, but isn't sole culprit. Also even if BC doesn't matter to most customers and myself doesn't consider it a deal breaker I acknowledge that it is a nice feature and many people like/want it.
Man I crack jokes on here almost every day, some of them are lost in translation and other jokes are just rubbish :D I'm well used to people missing what I had intended, some jokes just don't work when going from speaking to text as well. I just seen the red thumbs and was thinking "oh fuck... hope people don't think I was shitting on the ps4's great milestone" awww well, can't win um all!
I would say that it probably have to do with people not knowing intentions, and VGC forums having a track of posts that take the merit of PS4 sales and put on the failures of others instead of the decisions of Sony. But yes making jokes is a slim line. I have been banned quite sometimes for making jokes that were considered extreme or as if I truly thought that.
Lets say no one cares about PSVita and give PS3 it sales so we have 4 at 100M
I care about my Vita.... it's in an old consoles home at the moment... but I visit it when I get the chance! It's just that with college being so busy and the Switch actually having games... I just... I just want it to be happy and go out peacefully :'(

I'm playing Persona 4 Golden so my Vita is getting a lot of use. But I needed to make a joke =]
If you lived in São José dos Campos I could lend you it for a week or two =] ... it was a mix of planned and impulse buy. I wanted to test the second screen functionality and I wanted a second control for the time I could do a couch co-op (yes not that frequent on PS games). So I was travelling and found a PSVita without much wear and tear for 70 CAN dollars, which was the same price of a controller at the time. So I bought it.
Unfortunately is Slim. I do prefer the first models of each HW for my collection though.
