Xbox Live Arcade Sales, Top20 June 2009 - News

This month, we finally see a new game take the top spot away from Castle Crashers. Despite the game being maligned for the ruleset, Magic: The Gathering manages to sell a strong number of units in it's debut month, with 2 weeks of data used in these numbers.

Other new games litter the charts when aligned for revenue. Sam & Max had a decent debut at 6,240 units/$124,800 revenue. However, don't expect this to last long due to the heavy price point. Cellfactor, Wolfenstien, Garou, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also debuted in the top 20 when aligned for revenue. Other Sega hits did well outside the top 20 with Gunstar Heroes at #22, and just over 10,000 units for the month.

In total, the Sega Classics, which have seen multiple releases over the past decade saw combined sales of 42,606 units. Phantasy Star II was the worst selling at 3,200 units. This is rather decent for the titles, as Sega recently released other retail collections, which has flooded the market with these classic titles.

In the coming month, expect major increases in sales, as Worms 2: Armageddon launched on July 1st, which put it past the availability of this chart. As of today, the 3rd, it has sold over 10,000 units and looks to be #1 next month. Overall sales for the month were up slightly, by 3% versus the month prior. It would seem that sales are rather mundane, until new significant games come out over the next 2 months. Despite this, games such as Castle Crashers and SF2HDT are doing rather well at their price range(s).

And in final news, Castle Crashers passed the $10,000,000 revenue mark. It's the first game to breach the mark, and major kudos to the game for doing such.

No Braid... Boo, but glad to see arcade sales are going strong. I doubt anything on PSN or WiiWare is selling this well.

Magic is great. I've spent many hours on it already and it's fun unlocking the cards and playing online. I wish there was an extensive deck builder, but the game works great regardless.

I'm glad to see the XBLA sales chartz are back.

Is Boom Boom Rocket being given away for free with some 360s? I'm surprised to see it in the top 10.

@ Hisiru, (IMO) it is worth buying. I have played the game for years and for $10 you have access to multiple decks, the game manages everything for you. play against friends, play co-op, play 4 player games, ect.

The lack of a deck manager has been the biggest complaint, however, as you unlock cards and well build pre-decks you can swap out up to like 20-25 colored cards per deck so it does give you some management (if you unlock what is needed).

The complaints regarding the 2 sec delay between abilities being too long is a joke. Anyone who has played the actual game knows that sometimes it takes more than 2 secs for your opponent to tap and organize just his land, let alone other cards they may be playing. I found the games to be equal or less time than actual games played with multiple opponents.

For $10 dollars, if you are a Magic fan, it is well worth the cost (IMO).

TWR - this is my second one since VGC2.0. I am unsure why the formatting didn't stay with it...Very fusterating. I will see if I can re-do it.

MTG is good, so I am glad to see good sales. Sam and Max deserves more love.

Surprised Magic did so well even with the name sake. Garou did ok but I was expecting a bit more in terms of sales. A really sick month in terms of fighting games: Garou, Blaz Blue, KOF XIII and KOF 98 ultimate match along with Marvel versus Capcom 2!

All the colours are gone.... is this the first one you did since VGC2.0 ? it's a much slow process adding colours now as it won't work when selecting cells.
