Microsoft: 'We’re Going to be Launching the Most Powerful Console Ever Made With Xbox Scorpio' - News

Following Sony's reveal of the PlayStation 4 Slim and PlayStation 4 Pro, Albert Penello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, spoke with IGN about how much powerful the Xbox Scorpio will be than the PlayStation 4 Pro.
He also discussed how the Xbox One S with 4K Blu-Ray with HDR is a better value than the PlayStation 4 Slim.
"I believe that the difference between what we’re going to deliver with Scorpio from a performance perspective and PS4 Pro will be obvious to customers," said Penello. "I believe we have the best value this holiday, and I think we’re going to have the most powerful box next year.
"I think for $299 the Xbox One S with 4K Blu-Ray, with HDR, with the upgraded controller with Bluetooth, and the new design, I think we’ve got a killer product that beats their PS4 Slim on the low end. I think that for people who care about the absolute maximum in performance, we said at E3 we’re going to be launching the most powerful console ever made. That is still true.
"We were very confident when we made the announcement. It was kind of a bold thing to say, given the rumors that were out there. And I’m more confident today that we’re going to have the most powerful console ever made."
Penello added that Microsoft is ensuring Xbox One owners they won't be left behind when the Xbox Scorpio launches. All future games will work on the Xbox Scorpio, as well as the original Xbox One. Games will look better on Scorpio.
"[As far as] forward compatibility, If you go back and watch our launch video, this was one of the key things we stated in the video," he added. "We think about [Xbox One and Scorpio] as part of the same family. All of your existing Xbox One games and accessories will work. Your Xbox One games will look better on Scorpio. And I believe we will have a very good story for customers for both upgrading their content and how the cross-compatibility between the two products works. Every game that you’re buying this holiday for Xbox One and Xbox One S is going to work on Scorpio, no problem. Out of the box.
"I think it’s very interesting that Sony and us arrived at a very similar strategy. Maybe some differences in execution on the product side, but I think the landscape of technology is changing. I think customers’ expectations are changing. I think that console generations are really, really exciting for people, but super disruptive to developers and to customers. And this idea that we’re thinking beyond console generations doesn’t mean that we’re not going to have exciting, new, more powerful hardware.
"But we look for a continuity of players and content and accessories that’s kind of unprecedented, and I think Scorpio is our first foray into that. I think you’re going to go through a period in the industry where people just have to get used to change, because this is a new idea. But I like our vision of forward compatibility, I like our vision beyond console generations. I’m very confident that we’re going to deliver customers a great experience on Scorpio and that co-existence of the Xbox One and S and Scorpio at the same time is going to be a really great thing. I’m really excited about it."
"More and more, developers are having to build content for multiple devices. Making that easier for developers means you get better quality games for customers," he added. "So I think it is part of our vision to make it easier for developers to make console and PC games. When you look at our specs for Scorpio at 6 teraflops, our goal was to deliver true 4K games, the same kind of quality you see on PC, available on Xbox. That was our design goal for Scorpio.
"So yeah, I think you see some similarities there. I always want to be careful. I’m a console guy myself, and I want to respect that living room, console-like experience, and I want PC gamers to have that great upgradability, customizability experience that they’ve always had. So I think it’s important to respect both platforms while you go through this story."

Yeah i know. MS releasing PSNow on PC means they have no exclusives anymore... oh wait a second
@Azzanation: I mean, this post can be picked apart in so many ways... For starters, MS didn't release PSNow. Second, PSNow is a streaming service, not a series of full releases. Third, it's a streaming service for PS3 games, which don't even run on PS4 to begin with. Fourth, because PSNow is only PS3 titles, it means that all of the PS4 exclusives are still that; exclusive. And finally, PSNow is only barely playable, not to mention expensive.
Five strikes, which is funny, because that's about how many exclusives XB1 has left~

2 i can play over 300 playstation exclusives on my PC
3 PSNow will grow (they invested too much money into it not to)
4 PSNow will improve its preformance (technology always does)
5 if i can play the game on another system then its not an exclusive

This entire time you seem to have lost sight of the fact that Xbox One doesn't have exclusives, but PS4 does. Having PS3 games stream on PC has literally nothing to do with it, and only shows that you have no idea what's going on around you.
Being the most powerful console wont make it the best sellerer, BUT it will stimulate sales.
So many consoles, what a mess.
Sega tried all this BS back in the early 90's. Genesis in 89, Sega CD in 92, 32X in 94, Saturn in 95... how did it work out for them? Consumers get confused, they get overwhelmed, they don't have the money to buy everything and they just end up tuning out. The fact that Sony and Microsoft think this stuff is a good idea is just ridiculous to me but hey... Someone thought the Ghostbusters remake was a good idea so... yeah.
I could agree that the XB1S is a better value than the PS4S. The 4K BR is a huge value. HDR however is not a selling point, plus the PS ecosystem is a lot bigger, so it's hard to see beyond this.
However, if 4K output is the only reason to buy a XB1S, then it makes no sense, because people will be GAMING at 4K in about two months. So the XB1S and the PS4S are not the "better value". Why would someone play 300$ to just watch videos at 4K when for 400$ you can game at 4K? Makes no sense whatsoever.
Also, even if the PS4P didn't exist, the only reason to buy the XB1S over the PS4S would be the BD player, since the console's still pretty much about 30% less powerful, slower and with way less games and players.
It makes plenty of sense. Right now the cheapest native 4K Blu Ray player on the market is 300. So if I'm in the market for a 4K player, I might as well go for the one that plays games. But if I'm the kind of guy who's only going to play games once in a while, or maybe just wants the gaming feature for his kids, I might not think the 100 extra dollars for 4K gaming.
Just like some people will care about 4K gaming, but not really care about 4K video, others will care about 4K video but not 4K gaming. All kinds of people on this blue marble.
Gaming is my no.1 priority and I absolutely want 4K Blu-Ray with HDR on my gaming console. I don't really care much about games or exclusives.
