In its latest fiscal results Nintendo has confirmed that its next dedicated gaming system, codenamed the Nintendo NX, will be launching March next year.

The company also announced that the latest instalment in The Legend of Zelda series will release on both the NX and Wii U in March 2017, and that the title will be Nintendo's focus during this year's E3.

They are missing the 2016 holiday season and not showing the console at E3? Those are some wacky business decisions.

I could say a lot of things, but I'll refrain myself and only say that it's disappointing.

Good thing we all bought a WiiU, eh? To play the eighth Mario Kart game and Splatoon. Definitely NOT to play the new Zelda or anything.

Why'd you buy a console to play a game that wasn't released yet?

But guys, guys the NX isn't the console and isn't going to replace the Wii U, guys, guys seriously.

I think the reason they are avoiding an E3 reveal and the holidays this year comes down to two words: Virtual Reality. They know it will hog a lot of spotlight at E3 and the companies behind the headsets will bum rush the holidays making effective promotion challenging and very, very expensive. The only decision I think seems strange and a legit mistake to me is delaying the Wii U version of Zelda until 2017. They had better at least announce new Wii U and NX titles at E3. I can understand wanting the big reveal to have its own conference with all the spotlight and wanting an uncontested launch but they can't let their presence at E3 and the holidays be too limited, it will damage the brand as a whole.

Spring is the typical season to launch portable consoles. Meditate, people, meditate. :-P

Are they then doing their own event, like Sony and Microsoft did for their consoles?
I mean, if their E3 presence is weak, and their new console is about to launch, they better do something else.

I expect that. They release all hardware info before E3, and focus on Wii U and 3DS games at E3, and maybe 1 or 2 NX games besides Zelda.

It's unlikely, though.

Well the timing of the launch made me happy, I will have my tax return then, so I know what I'm spending it on.
