The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

PS4 Vs. PS3 Global:

Gap change in latest month: 398,310 – PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 7,006,215 – PS4

Total Lead: 16,555,093 – PS4

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 36,885,091

PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 20,329,998

January 2016 is the 27th month of the PlayStation 4 being on sale. The gap increased during the month when compared to the PlayStation 3’s 27th month on sale by 398,310 units in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by 16.56 million units.

Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 36.89 million units in its first 27 months, while its predecessor the PlayStation 3 sold 20.33 million units.

I dont understand how there is still people who do not believe that the PS4 will end up selling more than 100m.

Because the Wii is outselling the PS4 in the same timeframe and that only reached 101m.

Yet its outselling the ps2 in the same timeframe, the console who sold more than the wii? Truth is the wii dropped like a rock ounce the casual bubble bursted.
