The PS4 is selling like hotcakes and it still can't catch up with the Wii. Amazing numbers for both.

Of all the gap charts, I think this is the most interesting one. (XOne v. X360 is second, but besides those two I don't pay attention to anything.)

First 3 years the Wii sold 60+ million. It will take the PS4 around 4 years to match the Wiis first 3 year sales. The PS4 will eventually catch and over take the Wii and end up around 120 million life time sales.

It's okay, because those Wii numbers will drop hard within the year :P

These Wii numbers are those from 2008. 2009 still sold over 21millions and 2010 over 17 millions, which is more or less what the PS4 is selling. Only starting 2011 (11 millions) will the PS4 really start to catch up

yes, the Wii reached maximum after 2 years if i remember well (2008). PS4 will win.

How about a Wii U VS 360 and/or PS3?

I think the PS4 is under tracked by about half a million... and by next year would probably stand it's ground against the Wii sales! And start to catch up to the Wii after that, sins the bulk of the Wii's sales came from the first 3 years....

The PS4 is undertacked as well so we can assume that the PS4 is maybe only 5.5 million behind the Wii which is crazy when you think of how popular the Wii was within its first 3 years or so. I mean the media craze, the marketing, the games, the price, just the shear amount of attention the Wii was getting in general...the PS4 is only about 5-6 million behind that while only offering itself as a traditional console.

Not taking anything away from the Wii or Nintendo because lets face it, the Wii/DS era has to be the largest amount of money/popularity that any company will get within a 4 year span in the videogame industry.

It's incredible since Wii was so casual focused...

Well the early image of the Wii was much more positive on all fronts. I knew people of every kind who were interested in the Wii - gamers, non gamers. It launched with promotion that appealed to a lot of people: your first calendar year highlights included Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports, Twilight Princess (a freaking launch title too), and Metroid Prime 3. And it had that new-tech appeal, being something completely new. I think that strong start with a nice, even appeal gave it the momentum. That and the very good pricing. The casual focus that completely swallowed it up in late 2009 and onwards actually cut its legs out from under it I think. Narrowed the appeal to one demographic and tainted it's rep with all the others.

It's sold that well because it attracte a lot of people who didn't care about gaming before
