Welcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. These charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 26,491,949
PlayStation 3 Total Sales: 15,536,248
September 2015 is the 23rd month of PlayStation 4 availability and the gap increased during the month when compared to the PlayStation 3’s 23rd month on sale by 442,486 units in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by a total of 10.96 million units.
Both consoles launched in November. The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 26.49 million units in its first 23 months, while its predecessor, the PlayStation 3, sold 15.54 million units.

Almost two years since the console launched. Wonder where this generation will end up sales wise.
Worth pointing out by the end of this year the PS4 will have outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360, combined for the same 26 month period. Let that sink in for a moment, combined!!!!
So the PS3 sold better than the Xbox One currently is?
I really want more relevant comparison charts. We need PS3 vs XB1, Vita vs WiiU, and PS4 vs 3DS. These comparisons are made much more often than PS3 vs PS4 (at least in these forums).
