Juniper Research: 30 Million VR Headsets to be Shipped by 2020 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 16 September 2015 / 3,590 Views30 million virtual reality headsets are expected to be shipped to market by 2020, according to Juniper Research, as reported by GamesIndustry.

"The recent attention to and investment into virtual reality is helping to revitalise the industry and with major brand commercial launches imminent, there is huge potential for rapid market expansion," said Joe Crabtree.
Juniper anticipates that VR will not fade away like it has done in the past with early devices like Nintendo's Virtual Boy. This is due to better technology, better graphics, lower latency, and numerous major backers in the form of Sony, Valve, and Facebook.
Three million VR headsets are expected to be shipped by the end of 2016.

Nope. There's just too much inconvenience in the whole concept. You can't plug and play this thing. You have to sit down, clear an area for safety's sake, and then put on the headset and all that. Which by the way leaves you blind and mostly deaf to the outside world, which is highly inconvenient. If you get thirsty during a long session, how can you see where your drink is to grab it without slipping the headset on? That sounds trivial but it's just an example of the fundamental issue of inconvenience. I think VR has potential as a much smaller, hobby thing and perhaps as a sort of arcade setup where you come in and can have VR experiences without the burden of buying the whole setup and putting it together in your house. But 30 million in less than 5 years? I would be shocked.
I honestly don't see vr succeeding at all... mark my words, vr, from any company, will flop and fade away.
I actually see VR having more potention in the tabletop gaming community. Imagine board game night or D&D night with friends around the world. Essentially VR + video chat.
Or the virtual travel possibilities with VR + Google Maps.
Needs a price tag of $150 to ship them numbers which isn't going to happen, At $300 this will be a very niche product and there expecting a 35-40% attach rate of PS4 users with this estimate it seems.
sony will can it if they dont make a profit, valve isnt willing to realy push it(like they werent willing to push the controller and facebook is just to incompetent to make a good working device. it will only work when real tech giants want in(like apple,, or google, or amazon,or samsung)
I think Sony will can VR harder than Microsoft did with Kinect :v
