by William D'Angelo , posted on 10 September 2015 / 10,574 ViewsWelcome to the VGChartz Gap charts. These charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
3DS Vs. DS Global:
Gap change in latest month: 1,870,066 - DS
Gap change over last 12 months: 19,855,310 - DS
Total Lead: 46,889,903 – DS
3DS Total Sales: 53,697,380
DS Total Sales: 100,587,283
In the latest month the gap grew another 1.87 million units in favor of the DS, while the gap has grown by a total of 19.86 million units over the last 12 months. The DS currently leads by an overall total 46.89 million units.
An important note is that the two handhelds launched at different times of the year, although this does not, of course, account for such an enormous lead. The DS first launched in November 2004, while the 3DS launched in February 2011. The 3DS has sold 53.70 million units in the first 54 months, while the DS sold 100.59 million units.

Holy crap...in FOUR year the DS sold over 100,000,000? :O I didn't realize it sold THAT fast.
insane numbers
I would like to see comparisons between psp/3ds or ps4/3ds. Comparing anything to failures like Vita/Wiiu or monsters like DS/Ps2 is not even funny
Some people will look to the Wii as being the source of Nintendo's good fortune but the DS was such a beastly device for so long.
