E3 2009: Preview: Singularity - Preview
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 11 July 2009 / 2,685 ViewsSingularity is a sci-fi-themed first-person shooter with a time-manipulation gimmick being developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. Unlike most games that deal with messing with time in some fashion, Singularity has you interacting with other objects to bring them forward or backward in time - aging or de-aging them - along with interacting with the same location at a single point in the past, in the 1950s.
The story takes place in 2010, with you playing the part of a downed pilot who was sent to investigate some strange readings coming from an island and ends up communicating with some stranger who's apparently been trapped in time by certain events that happened in the past. Turns out, a group of Russians were looking into a new element (E-99) in the 1950s, when everything went wrong and the place went kaboom.

You mess around with time using your Time Manipulation Device. You can take a ruined staircase and bring forth its past, intact version. You can grab a missile and send it to its prior state - back at its owner. You can age the wall an enemy is hiding behind to turn it into rubble and give yourself an open shot. There's also some kind of phasing energy ghoulish enemies to fight along the way.
Further details are still pretty scant at this point, and with the game pushed back until 2010 it might be awhile before we hear anything else. Until then you can watch the E3 trailer below.
