E3 2011 Eyes-On: Pet Zombies in 3D - Preview

You know what would make any pet simulation better? If the pets weren’t animals, but zombies.  That’s the thought process behind Pet Zombies in 3D, an upcoming Majesco title for the Nintendo 3DS.  Sounds like a winning idea to me!

So, the basic premise is that you’ve got a pet walking corpse, and you are responsible for making sure he stays unwashed, eats an acceptable number of brains, and generally just does zombie-like things. The graphical style makes it seem like a House of the Dead game if everything wasn’t trying to kill you.

In lieu of available screenshots, here's an artists rendering of what Pet Zombies would look like in real life.

The difference between this and other virtual pet games is that you don’t necessarily have to be nice to them. In fact, you can burn them with a torch, electrocute them, or just plain beat them up.  The way you treat your zombie friend will impact his disposition and change the environment to look more cheerful or depressing.

There are six mini-games you can play to earn money in the game, like rolling a zombie head through a maze. Cash earned through these games can be spent on more zombies, new environments, and furnishings like grandfather clocks. I have to wonder what exactly a zombie needs with a grandfather clock, but that’s just me.

You’ll be able to pet your own zombies (in 3D!) when the game launches on September 1.
