E3 2011 Hands-On: Virtua Tennis 4 (PS Vita) - Preview
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 09 June 2011 / 3,666 ViewsThe Virtua Tennis has -- surprisingly -- become quite a common show piece for new technologies at this year's E3 but since it can safely lie in the same category as Dynasty Warriors' been-there-done-that motif, everyone pays little mind to it.
The gameplay was mostly perfected with the first game back during Sega's last console, the Dreamcast, and since then has only seen slight revisions to its core concept. Sony's demo of Virtua Fighter 4 shows Sega's willingness to experiment with the formula by creating an experience that is fully playable via touch gestures.

Virtua Tennis 4 can completely -- and effectively -- be played this way too as Virtua Tennis may be a reflex-based series but not so much to invalidate the PS Vita's touch controls. Like UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss for me, though, I kept going back to the analog stick and found that it fit my -- relatively -- hardcore gamer sensibilites more aptly, but players are more than happy to even mix it up with movement via left-analog stick and touch gestures for ball hits, if they so desire.
One to look forward to for its interesting take on touch gesture-based controls but it's not necessarily anything that couldn't be done on touch-ready devices today.
