Play as Kirk or Spock in Star Trek: the Game - Preview

Based in the current J.J. Abrams timeline, Star Trek: The Game will allow you to play as either Kirk or Spock. It's a 3rd person co-op cover based shooter that is entirely built on the idea of playing as the captain or playing as the Vulcan.
Spock. No contest.
Choosing Spock gives you access to the tricorder and Vulcan mind melds, while playing as Kirk gives you access to punching without thinking. The gameplay and cutscenes will be different based on which of the two characters you select. Both Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will be voicing their respective characters and from what I heard, they did not phone it in.
The game is set after the end of the first movie but before the upcoming sequel. The villians are the iconic Gorn, first seen in the classic Star Trek episode “Arena.” Far removed from ‘some guy in a rubber suit’ these Gorn are massive lizard men that come in various sizes and abilities. They can infect their foes with venom that can cause hallucinations and eventually kill.
You can take out the smaller infantry Gorn Rushers with a few phaser blasts but that won’t work with the massive Gorn Brutes. The player who is controlling Spock will have to scan the brute for weaknesses while Kirk distracts it. Once Spock locates the chink in its armor, they will have to work together to take it down.
All in all Star Trek: the Game is shaping up to be a solid game that you will want to play with a friend. It will be available for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 early next year.
