Death is Swift & Hilarious in Life Goes On - Preview
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 30 March 2014 / 2,876 ViewsI've only been writing for this site for a short time (and it's great!), but one of the documents that comprises my Bible for writing here is IGN's list of 12 PAX Indie Games to Watch. Today, for the first time, I got my hands on one of the games on that list: a Beta build for Infinite Monkeys' puzzle/platformer Life Goes On, which I'll be reviewing upon its full release early next month.
The first thing that happens to you is you die. Seriously. But it's fine, because that is the point of the game. You have to navigate a knight to the grail at the end of each level. These levels are treacherous, however, and you'll be using the corpses of your fallen comrades as a way to move around them unscathed.
The puzzle aspect manifests itself in navigating the level, but the real challenge comes from your efficiency. How few deaths can you complete a level in and can you beat the challenge time? There's even a separate challenge goal in each level in the form of a furry little monster that will eat you when you find him (think Comet Coins in Super Mario Galaxy).

Life Goes On is enjoyable on the whole, even if some of the platforming gameplay errs on the wrong side of challenging (who knew that the head of a dead knight makes a narrow target?). With puzzles that are clever and a sense of humor that is very entertaining, Life Goes On shows a lot of promise. Specifically, the Credits sequence was one of the funniest and most unique experiences I've had in gaming in a while, so I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the full build and playing the rest of this one.
If this already sounds like something you want to look into, they are running a pre-order sale on Steam for the game: $9.74 before the full launch on April 16, when it goes on sale at $13.
