Both consoles launched in November. The Wii launched in November 2006, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013.

Keeping the lead this long without japan is already impressive. It should maintain that ways few months more. My country is not a big market, but the console is sold out until march and that has never happened with any console, amazing.
it's pretty amazing how the shrink in the gap is entirely from sales in Japan.out the current lack thereof. next month's report should show the gap grow again
The gap would have never gone down actually if it wasn't for the supply issues... it's still outsold pretty much everywhere. I still have to get a chance to buy one
Alright, PS4 is holding up pretty well now ... I look forward to the february NPD numbers to see if it's the real deal.
PS4 has more than a million above Wii without being released in Japan.
The gap will increase in February.
Really impressive
Will PS4 top PS2? Madness
I am waiting for the holidays NPD to gauge the PS4. Didn't Wii sales explode in it's first holidays?
Well since PS4 is releasing in Japan this month I think that gap will widen a little again - in PS4's favor.
Looking to be a great generation for Sony. Thank god too. Someone that gives so much for so little deserves to be #1.
totally agree! As far as corporations go they are definitely (along with Ninty) the lesser of the evils. It's all about $ for all of them.... but some go about it better than others. I think Sony has found a happy medium at least in their gaming division. Sales for Sony's gaming division has grown something like 300% since the launch of the PS4 and they have smashed every single projection they had. While Sony as a whole might be on thin ice, it's gaming division is thriving. Sony has just done everything right, and people are noticing and rewarding them for it. PS4 will be my first next gen purchase and in my town of over 220,000 people I very rarely hear anyone say they want an X Box One over a PS4. EVERYONE wants to be the next person to have a PS4 and it seems no one really cares at all about X Box One with a few scattered fans that are promoting Titanfall as the next coming of Jesus. We'll see how that works out..... Isn't it scary that the PS4 in the United States is smashing the X Box One and let's be honest it really has no games that warrant a purchase right now... it is more a future investment in what we know will come down the road. I think people know by getting a PS4 they are getting the best version of multi plats... they are getting amazing deals... the stronger hardware.. higher resolutions.. higher FPS.. more content for the money (regarding PS Plus especially) amazing first party games, longevity and support for games and franchises long after release.. I mean look at the way Sony is still supporting PS3.. I'm LOVING my PS3 right now.. sure can't wait for PS4 but PS3 is serving me better than ever. Downloading TLoU: Left Behind DLC right now.. I'm hoping it's gonna be as good as my expectations. Knowing ND it will be better.
Sorry for long post... I just think there is a few big reasons why Sony is wining so big and so easily this gen thus far. I think people who are saying "WHY IS PS4 SELLING LIKE THIS?!?!" I think the answer is quite obvious... they have just done everything right. The sales are deserved. They have offered a great product for a low cost that offers the best the industry has to offer.

I don't think there's much doubt the Wii will eventually take the lead. But PS4 has already had a great first year simply by selling 5 million in its first 3 months. I expect PS4 to win February with Japan coming on stream, March is a toss up depending on how fast Japan sales normalise to baseline sales. April to October will be interesting.
The PS4 isn't out in Japan yet. And Amazon UK has the next batch of PS4s coming.. March 18.
For me PS4 not exceed Wii to end of gen... in these times of crisis the number of old generation is a dream, Wii, X360, and PS3 sold 260 milion in total, and for me this generation it will make only 220 milion. But for me, PS4 will be in a sense the winner, because all console sold less of old, but for me PS4 will sold more PS3. My estimates for end of gen: 1)3DS=110 milion 2)PS4=95 milion 3)Wii U=70 milion 4)XBOX ONE=50 milion 5)PSVita=35 milion
P.S
Sorry for my englesh, i'm italian.
PS4 will easily hit 100 Million. Hell PS3 might even hit it before it stops selling.
That's the kind of graph that will get really interesting after 3 or 4 years! (when the Wii sales collapsed).
