Welcome to the ‘Top 10’ weekly feature. Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.

This week we will be looking at the top 10 selling LEGO games. Last week we looked at the top 10 selling Grand Theft Auto games and the week before that the top 10 selling games in April 2013.

Top 10 Selling LEGO Games

Looking at the top 10 bestselling LEGO games, one title was released in 2005, one in 2006, one in 2007, two in 2009, and one in 2009. There was also one title released in 2010, two in 2011, and one in 2012.

The six titles released in the 2000’s sold a combined 55.76 million units or an average of 9.29 million units on average per title. The four titles released in the 2010’s sold a combined 20.04 million units or 5.01 million units on average per title. The LEGO series of titles has been in decline since its peak in 2007 and 2008.

The top 10 bestselling LEGO games sold a combined 75.80 million units. The top three titles sold more than 10 million units and the top seven titles sold more than five million units. Nine of the top 10 games sold more than four million units, while the entire top 10 sold more than three million units.

The series is developed by Traveller’s Tales, however the publisher has varied depending on who own the main IP’s at the time. LucasArts published the Star Wars and Indiana Jones titles, six in total. Warner Bros. published the Batman and Harry Potter titles, three in total. Disney published the Pirates of the Caribbean title.

The six LucasArts titles sold a combined 49.23 million units or 64.9 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The three Warner Bros. titles sold a combined 22.49 million units or 29.7 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The one Disney title sold 4.08 million units or 5.4 percent of the total games sold in the top 10.

Top 10 Selling LEGO Games

The top 10 bestselling LEGO games as a graph really shows how the three titles, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, LEGO Batman: The Videogame and LEGO Indiana Jones, has sold well above the rest.  These three titles all sold more than 10 million units and accounted for nearly half of all the games sold in the top 10.

Sales for the franchise were spread out across multiple platforms, including the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DS, PSP, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and the 3DS. However, the most popular platforms were the Wii, DS and Xbox 360.

Here are the sales outside the top 10: The franchise has sold 87.88 million units at retail worldwide, while the bulk of the sales, 51.1 million units, were from North America. 23.38 million of the games sold were from Europe, while 13.40 million units came from the rest of the world, including Japan.

Lego City Undercover is one of the best Lego games ever produced. It would be great for the series if it gets a port for other consoles in the future

Heh, they released it on the wrong console and now it sold very poorly. Bad choice, expecially in terms of "audience".

Actually the sales of Lego City are good. Of course sales on a new platform could not be as high as on established consoles. The sales will grow when more Wii Us are sold.

They won't grow that much, considering how bad the console is performing. Very bad choice, I hope Nintendo paid them well for the exclusivity.

Sick sales. This series is actually one of the big sellers, what legs can do.
