This week, hype surrounding E3, and the new content takes over, as XBLA takes a back seat this week, in terms of sales. Overall sales are down 31.77% this week, as the vast majority of games see between 20-50% reductions in sales.
However, that didn't seem to hurt last week's games Golf: Tee it Up, and Schizoid, as both saw very good holds, and increases from last week. With the market taking a downturn, this should spell good news in terms of legs for both games. I would expect good holds for both games coming up next week (maybe -30% for either title).
Despite the good news for last week's games, sales for the 3 new titles: Coffeetime Crosswords, Double D Dodgeball, and Live Fantasy Tracker saw horrific openings at #42, 72, and #80 on the lists. Ouch. Coffeetime Crosswords was expected, as the game is has been atrociously panned on Major Nelson's Blog since it was announced. I expected sub-3000 units to be nice, but seeing it just under 600 units doesn't surprise me a bit.
The 2 shockers, in terms of what they did (and how they were announced) were Double D, and LFT. Both games had the worst openings since I've done the XBLA charts - well underneath Shrek-N-Roll, and Coffeetime Crosswords. All 3 rank in the worst 3 spots in terms of opening weeks. Both LDT and Double D owe their poor showings to the week of E3, and the fact that outside of Major Nelson's Blog, no one knew they were debuting. As I have said: Marketing is the key to ensuring good sales on XBLA. No one knew either game was coming out. However, I do expect a solid week for both titles. In fact, Live Draft Tracker, at $5, should see very strong legs in the coming weeks and months as college and professional football get underway.
- Golf: Tee it Up! breaks a small trend of games not having good increases on their 2nd week being on XBLA, as a 33% increase is quite good. Having a $100,000 second week is always a great sign that your game is going places, and Golf: TiU should hit $1,000,000 in revenue at some point in the future.
- Schizoid , after a dissapointing first week, saw a decent little increase this week. Not as much as Golf: TiU, but still, the game is reaching the $100,000 mark. And as the first-ever XNA title, I would think that profitabilty might be easier to attain than some other XBLA games.
- Buku Soduku is about the only other noticible title outside of the 5. It saw a very slight increase (0.29%) on a week where everything reduced, therefore it shot up 10 places on the XBLA charts. Why? It recieved a free content upgrade last Thursday or Friday, and has now seen growth due to it. Very good news for it's makers, I believe.
- Soul Calibur saw an expected, big, drop of 70% on the week. The worst should be over since this was a poor week for all games. Expect it to end it's first month with approximately 60,000 units.
Also, for anyone interested: We always talk about what position game X or Y is when it debuts, to give some context as to how sales are. I went ahead and have built a table chart for all XBLA games that we have seen launch (since November). The charts have games by Week, By Month, and a combined chart with Week, Month and then Multiplier, to show the "legs" of a given game. As you'll see, there are a few games with Monthly sales data that launched just before we started tracking (but still are eligible for these charts).
Top Debuts, by Week & Month
Next Week: Rumor has it that 1942: Joint Strike is going to be the game of the week, next week, as an XBLA/PSN multiplat game. However, with the huge treasure trove of other games that Microsoft has queued up for the next month, I wouldn't be surprised to see it launch with another decently-large game next week.
Oh, and as always: Our charts are brought to you by the lovely Mygamercard.net , and it's owner, Morgon.

^ I think he meant how long the game have been available.
Samuel - What do you mean by week numbers?
Suggestion: week numbers.
well, at least we get trials then :-/
waka -
I think the issue is that developers are either 1 of 2 things:
Cashing in on XBLA's popularity
Using XBLA as a vehicle for a truely indie concept
1 gives us trashy ports, or shoddy, cheap games.
2 gives us quality new titles, or great ports of classics.
Look at Golf: Tee it Up and Schizoid vs. Coffeetime Crosswords and Wing Commander Arena. Big difference, as one kind of game has a decent budget, or talented developers, versus games that are churned out hoping to make a larger publisher/developer a little bit of cash using a long-tail strategy.
Xbla seems to be the 2 extremes recently. Seems to be mostly pretty awesome games and crap. Not many just ok games. I'm not complaining though. I'm would be very happy with a week of CC (Castle crashers and coffeetime crosswords).
really? That's pretty damn pathetic then.
I hope golf: tee it up! and shitzoid do good, awesome games. A really good week when they both showed up.
Also, Coffeetime Crosswords is fucking terrible. A total embarrassment.
And, believe it or not, the 360 controller chat pad does not even work with this game! Yes that's right, a game centered entirely around letters and words that doesn't work with the only 360 keyboard.
That is Fail of Yaris proportions.
hardest part about getting 200/200 in dodgeball was finding 7 other people to play with online..
pain.
What a wasted week with E3 going on.
There are so many highly anticipated XBLA games scheduled for the next month and a half, the should have announced one or two of them were going up on the Marketplace during the Microsoft press conference, like Sonic and Golden Axe last year. Even if it wasn't something really big like Castle Crashers, both Bionic Commando Rearmed and 1942 are scheduled for a July release, and would have gone over a lot better with the E3-watching crowd.
Golf: Tee it up! had an impressive boost.
I'm so glad DDodgeball bombed, and the live draft ticker.
