Xbox Live Arcade Sales Top 100 - 4/12/08 (Ikaruga ~22.3k) - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 12 April 2008 / 5,443 ViewsClassic Dreamcast/Gamecube schmup 'Ikaruga' Dominates the charts with the 2nd highest debut of the year, while holdovers remain strong, and the market sees a 200% increase over last week.

This week was a good week for the Arcade. Although sales might of been the result of the market playing "Catch Up", the correction itself is interesting, as the market has constantly done well for the past few months. On average, games saw a 200% increase, with some titles doing much strong.
Titles with the most notable increases:
- Battlestar Galactica (+2,160%) - Due to Mygamercard.net 'Play & Win Sweepstakes', and supposed 1/2 Price Day this week (Revenue for the week, however, stayed at $10.00 to be safe)
- Pinball FX (+318%) - New Rocky & Bullwinkle Table this week.
- Chessmaster LIVE (+276%)
- Puzzle Quest: CotW (+261%)
Notable Title Breakdown:
- Ikaruga saw 22,300+ sales in 3 days this week. This high number almost matches current 2008 record holder 'Rez HD', which saw 25,200 units in early February. Multipliers for both games should be similar, so expect around 46,000 units next week, and 90,000 for the first month.
- Brain Challenge finished up it's first month on the market, with a strong surge to finish with 67,000 units it's first month. This sets it up as the 3rd fastest selling title of 2008, just behind 'Rez HD's' 99,000, and N+ at 79,000. However, this perch at #3 will last shortly, as Ikaruga will easily beat it's number. Still though, it was very impressive, with a 6.7x multiplier.
- N+ continues to creep up toward Rez HD's LTD total. It's now just 15,000 units behind, closing the gap this week by 7,000 units this week. N+, by the end of the day, will exceede 100,000 units.
- Mr. Driller Online, despite the abysmal multiplayer issues, saw a jump in sales like many other titles did. It's increases was fairly strong, after a very poor 3-day opening. However, don't expect long legs, as I have a feeling it will see a strong drop to sub-4,000 units next week.
Next Week's Title: Rocky & Bullwinkle
R&B is a mini-game compilation based on the movie, for 800MSP. From what I've seen, it matches the wit and humor of the great Nintendo game "WarioWare". Could it do well? We haven't seen many minigames on XBLA, aside from Brain Training (which is the closest game I can think of). There might be another game to come out, but as far as I know, R&B has been almost entirely confirmed, after I screwed up 2 weeks ago and falsely stated it was coming out the week of TiQal.

Ikaruga is a very niche-type game. Not everyone (such as myself) is a big fan of the old arcade-style shooters (like Galaga). However, if you like that sort of game, Ikaruga is the holy grail of shooters - it's high-graphic, great sound, involved gameplay, and one of the hardest games of that genre.
So if you like shooters of that nature, it's like being an RPG fan and never, ever playing Final Fantasy.
I may have to check out lkaruga if everyone else thinks it that good. Glad to see the current upswing.
5.54% - 5+ Achievements
I'M IN THERE! For that crappy ass Yaris. Surprised a lot of people haven't unlocked just more than one. I guess the game is pulling teeth for them.
As for REZ, achievements aren't that easy. Well, mainly the time attack ones getting a score of 75k I believe. Don't remember but those achievements are tough.
Glad Ikaruga sold well, it truly deserves it. I hope with these good sales, Treasure will release more games on XBLA. I want Guardian Heroes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a good race on for the next game to 500k between Carcassone, TMNT and Pacman CE
Read that the makers of Yaris went bust this week, maybe they should have made the achievments easier.
Mind you, the percentages are for people that have bought the given game, and what % of people had the number of achievements. That data was gleaned from Mygamercard.net.
Ah. Good old Yaris. I totally agree about Yaris being so crappy, it's hard to unlock achievements.
Actually, I do have to weight Yaris pretty strongly to give it relevant sales data vs. people unlocking achievements (I don't think I've actually unlocked any in the 1hr I played it).
Yaris' breakdown for achievements is as follows:
61.56% - 0 Achievements
19.98% - 1 Achievement
8.44% - 2 Achievements
2.45% - 3 Achievements
2.03% - 4 Achievements
5.54% - 5+ Achievements
Versus Rez HD:
9.99% - 0 Achievements
16.27% - 1 Achievement
20.95% - 2 Achievements
7.71% - 3 Achievements
17.64% - 4 Achievements
27.44% - 5+ Achievements
So on average, a owner of Rez HD is 5x more likely to unlock 5+ Achievements, than the average Yaris owner. Staggering, eh? It's not like all pay-for games are like that. Heck, Aegis Wings is DEFINATELY not like that. Over 57% of Aegis Wings owners have atleast 1 achievement.
What I find frustrating, is that Anyone who is not already online, does not even know what XBLA is. Come MS get advertising XBLA to the general public
@Source... Ikaruga is great... Worth every point...
@Strategyking92... I got one achievement in Yaris after my first race... Then, I shut it down... That was one of the shortest and toughest achievements to sit through!
XBox Live Arcade just keeps racking up great titles... This is turning out to be one of things that defines the 360... There are a lot of great pick up and play titles on Live Arcade.
If that's true, then Yaris should be at only 10,000 units sold. God, I don't know anyone could stand playing that long to unlock an acheivement. (let alone me)
Strategy, no idea, but yes, it's mainly just people finally playing Undertow, and getting an achievement.
that many people can't be actually buying undertow, I guess some people are finally unlocking at least 1 achievment in undertow? WTF is taking them so long?
Thumbs up for Ikaruga,Rez HD,N+ & Pac-Man CE.
Sooooo much fun. XD
Ikaruga had a great first week :) Good going :)
^news post length is unlimited.
Kru, Yes, it happened in January. There was a week (3rd week of Jan), that titles were up around 250-300%.
Usually, it comes as a way to "re-adjust" the market when there have been server issues at Microsoft. This happened when XBL had HUGE issues in December due to Halo and COD4...In January, sales were way up vs. Dec. because of adjustments.
Also was there ever a time all titles were up in positive territory?
LOL the source, i agree just gotta get me some more points.
Everyone who owns a 360 and has any self respect at all needs to buy Ikaruga. Amazing game.
Oh sweet! It didn't cut off the bottom 25 numbers!
