 | HelloMotto (on 17 April 2012) @Emme lol you are blind. go see a doctor. game looks fantastic. actually runs at native 720p on ps3. is locked at 30FPS with little to no drops. absolutely no screentearing. physics are mindblowing. game is still one of the top looking games on ps3. and about level design, i hope you realize than you can break down every single game with that kind of argument. super mario - walk, jump, walk, jump, walk, jump. bioshock, shoot, walk, shoot, walk. repeat. see? and btw, uncharted 2's pacing is near perfect. only RE4 has better pacing. |

SOny announced they shipped over 13 million as of a few weeks ago . they also anounced they shipped 3.8 million of Uncharted 3. which means they had shipped around 4.3 million of Uncharted 2, and a little over 4 million of Uncharted 1. other than Uncharted 3 (which seems undertracked by a lot) VGC seems to have the first 2 game right on the money. |

Perfect scores from critics mean nothing; critic's scores and awards are all merely personal opinions, I don't give a damn about other people's opinions, I never let others influence my opinion. Also, back in 08/09 Sony was in trouble because PS3 sales were low and they had very few exclusive AAA games, they desperately needed a killer hit but GT5 & GOW3's release dates were too far off... What better way to get that killer hit sooner than to bribe reviewers to give UC2 a lot of perfect scores/awards to garner interest from gamers. UC2 is a completely mediocre game in every way other than its great voice acting and good graphics. Far better games didn't get the high scores and recognition they deserved. |

Although the graphics were good, most of the characters eyes (especially Chloe) looked terrible, completely degrading the immersion in cinematics. Lastly, the final boss fight was pathetic. UC2 = 8.5/10... That said I'm still excited for UC3. |

Well the similarities from U:DF's gameplay to U2's gameplay are pretty much apples to apples in terms of platforming, gameplay, and both of those put together. You have the standard TPS gunplay from the first that certainly had a few quinks like the invisible walls not seen in U2 (from what I've played thus far), platforming was still the linear although fun stuff that a quick-thinker would use to try and make as climbable spots, and the shooting while trying to jump from ledge to ledge although U2's more vast enviroments make that happen in a better fashion than the first. Granted the tossing explosive barrel trick is something awesome but I believe DK64 did that same thing. It IS a new variation into the series that goes worthy of noting. I'm not sure what else I need to cover |

Gameplay would normally be narrowed down to it's genre(s), in this case what did U2 do over U:DF's Shooting, Platforming, and AI since it'd probably fit best under those 3 categories (could be missing something). |

Gameplay is similar, sixaxis controls were (IMO sadly) removed, cool sneak attacks were added, gunning IMO feels more rewarding, some additional weapons were added, Drake moves even more fluently, amongst other minor changes. AFAIR, the demo gameplay was well representative of the main gameplay, but there were impressive jetski and car gunning sections as well. |

People are free to state that they don't agree with the score, that's what message box is used for. Personally I usually include some reasoning why, but it's not mandatory. I did read a lot of good clarifications with regard to the criticism outed within this discussion. And BTW Halo 3: ODST got a 9.0 for gameplay, so it does not seem consistant with regard to getting a penalty or bonus for being different or not. I think Uncharted 2's gameplay is a lot more unique at this point. Even the official XBox 360 magazine (UK) agrees: "It's hard to justify it as a full release due to its repeating material and its short length." So basically short campaign, overly familiar gameplay and feels more like an expansion than a standalone title, that are the main points of criticism directed against Halo ODST. > In my opinion as well, > Uncharted's gameplay is truly > great So, we basically agree on the main point. What I just like to see is consistency with regard to reviewing. This is not the first review I criticized with regard to this. A Gamespot review with regard to Ratchet and Clank on the PS3, this also got a similar biased penalty for being similar to the previous PS2 games, but for other games like Halo they didn't even mention this (both series have their fanbase and are very different). It was the first Ratchet and Clank game I ever played. Surely the previous games did not use the Sixaxis functionilty which was well implemented in mini-games and especially I thought flying worked really well with this. I criticized them for lack of consistency as well by providing constructive feedback. Of course they make their money doing reviews, so I felt stronger about their inconsistency than with regard to this review. |

I'm only pointing out that your defintion of "consructive comments" seems to be a bit.....off when reading what majority of the comments actually are. Of course a gameplay mechanic like Halo's has been around for awhile, it started an awesome new gameplay mechanic to begin with (not sure about GRID's though since I haven't played)!!! Who said the sequels to Halo "fixed" anything? They just made their own identity to the series like bringing in dual-wielding for Halo 2 and other gameplay changes. This same reviewer gave Halo3's gameplay an 8.5 on here, although it brought new weapons and the X button special items (can't think of what else to call them) he felt the gameplay could've varied more or done something else and he critiqued why just like this review. In my opinion as well, Uncharted's gameplay is truly great but I wished 2's would've done some things differently. |

Which is an unconstructive statement as well, just take a few steps back. Uncharted's gameplay is rather unique as pointed out to you. Games like GRID or Halo sport gameplay mechanics which have been around for much longer (yet rated higher by the reviewer). But IMO that's not per se a bad thing. For example I haven't played much Call of Duty since 2003 (amongst plenty of similar gamplay mechanics found in other games), but got the hang of World at War immediately. I can imagine people appreciating Fifa, Madden or PES to remain similar. If it's not broken then don't fix it. I can probably pick up and play a game like MarioKart in no time as well. IMO Uncharted's gameplay is awesome and I most definately hope Naughty Dog stays on course with Uncharted 3. :-) |

It seems like your only disregarding that because your trying to drive home the point that U2's gameplay is the greatest anyone's ever played to be fact. Gears 2 took some risked with mobile cover with boomshields, using enemy bodies for protection, planting grenades as mines, sharpening the weapons, etc. While some of those improvements may not be liked from fans at least the devs (Epic) went to take risks on making the gameplay a new experience, which is what I don't find in Uncharted 2. "Space Marines"? You sure you've played Gears before? ;) |

Gears feels a lot bulkier and you have a lot less freedom with regard to movement. IMO would be nice if part 3 on the nextbox would improve on this and you get to kill those annoying oversized space marines. ;-) |

| coolbeans (on 25 October 2009) Yes it should matter, RE4 brought a whole new combat perspective to the series and it was founded to be awesome by many. The gameplay made a complete change and the devs worked hard to still make it feel as tense as the old games. An 8.5 on gameplay is great to begin with, it doesn't make some sort of risk in the process. U: DF's combat is pretty much identical to U2's except less polished fighting and now none of those invisable walls from the first (which scored an 8.5 on here for gameplay). Improving the combat to make fight sequences cooler and fixing some things with the gameplay in no way deserves a 9+ and that's how the reviewer saw it as well. |

With regard to graphical expectations, world complexity, audio capabilities or stuff going on at once you could have a point. The expectations on the PS3 are way higher, so if a PS3 game would look identical to a Wii or PS2 game people would by default be unimpressed and feel so much more could have been done from a technical polishment perspective. |

The gameplay is unique, other than the first game there's no game which plays like this. I certainly wouldn't have wanted it to change into a Resident Evil 6 or Call of Duty 7 style gameplay. For example he rated GRiD a 9.5 for gameplay, but it is very much like many other racing games. Motorstorm 2 for example plays a lot more unique (my favourite arcade racer). Regarding the Resident Evil vs Uncharted 2 gameplay mechanics, IMO Uncharted 2's is way superior. So IMO instead of Resident Evil being clearly superior (according to the reviewer), I think actually Uncharted 2 is way superior with regard to the gameplay mechanics. The characters in Resident Evil games aren't nearly as flexible and capable, Drake can do a lot more interesting stuff, like having far more extensive cover options, like including handy sneak attacks or like even hanging from ledges shooting the bad guys. He is a lot more flexible / fluent and has for example far more advanced close combat moves. The resident evil games are nice, but unlike Uncharted 2 there are some significant gameplay flaws, the characters feel a bit too bulky with regard to movement options (not in a good way like Killzone 2, RE games feel really slow in too many regards), the camera is IMO also far worse and using different weapons (like reloading weapon, etc from the inventory menu) is far more cumbersome for me. Just the tip of the iceberg, but clearly for me and everyone I know Uncharted 2's gameplay is so much better. Criticism was thus IMO to be expected... |

The first day sales in Japan were 47k so its looks like the first week in Japan may be able to eclipse the lifelong sales of Uncharted at 80k. American pre-orders stood at 300k the week before release so the first week sales will probable be around 450k. The Original Uncharted saw 54% of its sales in others and so the opening may be just as strong. But games in others are not as top heavy as America and Japan and it will only include two days of sales data for the first week. |

Though the right tactics with the right weapons makes things easier at times. Also You get 100K if you've finished Drake's Fortune. I'm saving at least 140K for One hit kills and Infinite Ammo. Can't unlock anything until you finish the game though. Got only 10 treasures so far. Will replay after amazon sends me my treasure map which i'll put on my psp. |
