Very nice game. I like the pulp style
slipknotfan (on 25 June 2011)
House of the Dead Grindhouse Pulp Fiction syle. Love it!!!!
megaman79 (on 28 May 2011)
No sequel news, but Sega is porting this to the PS3 Move. Unfortunately the assumption that the Wii version undersold is given more validity (obviously untrue).
MarioGalaxy (on 03 March 2011)
no news for the sequel? I though SEGA was planning to release desecond part this 2011...
Arfen (on 12 November 2010)
I heard the other day that sega will re-release this game bundled with a shotgun.. maybe this move make increase the sales. million mark would be possible
Conegamer (on 05 November 2010)
I'm hoping for 1mil LT!
kevinrize (on 04 November 2010)
Why do people have to pirate games. If you included the downloads for this game. This would be at 1.6million at least.
Spidey-RJ (on 29 October 2010)
Great game. I´m glad it is approaching the 750K milestone.
Venox2008 (on 23 October 2010)
great game! :)
oniyide (on 19 May 2010)
good to see a light gun game get some attention on WII
Tuulikk (on 27 April 2010)
Before the end of 2010 this game will have sold 800 000 or more. Maybe it will have a shot at 1m in 2011 or 2012.
marcianito (on 21 April 2010)
wow last time i checked it was 0.50 now is at 0.64 has good legs
Fededx (on 17 April 2010)
I'm glad it's still selling, nice game for the hardcore
atma998 (on 16 April 2010)
Good legs, the game almost sold 10k this week and still doing the top 200.
spurgeonryan (on 12 April 2010)
Ok so is at about ghost squad levels.
Smeags (on 06 April 2010)
Nooo! My awesome banner is gone! How could you Cheebee?
abcdario (on 12 March 2010)
Just bought this game on Amazon at U$13, it is not delivered yet, but lets try the carrier service i contracted with VISA for Colombia.

I just hope everything will be OK
oni-link (on 25 February 2010)
still selling quite well despite the piracy issue!!! Well done for this type of game and still priced around $20 on average in most stores http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=house+of+the+dead+overkill&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=3336758258891064499&ei=hi2HS7OaJYbUsQOM9fSTBw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBQQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers. I knew this and Madworld would blow up in sales once it hit $30 and I was so right. I have my doubts with The Conduit though but that is still doing okay!
torchmoney1 (on 23 February 2010)
i cant lie sega also is a company that sells game on the wii 2
swordplay (on 21 February 2010)
bought new for 10 bucks! how can this game not be a million seller? Amazon was selling it for $13!
oni-link (on 17 February 2010)
Sorry to hear that it is still overpriced at Sweden. IMHO this game should really be priced and bought at $30 or less; $20 being the sweet spot.
Tuulikk (on 15 February 2010)
@ oni-link
Right. The market is different now.

I wish I could find the game at the fine prices you have in USA. the cheapest in Sweden i have found it was at 229 kr/32USD. Thinking about buying it from another Country i Europe.
johnsobas (on 12 February 2010)
this game has been sitting in the 75-100 spot in amazon for a long time even now because of the $13 price. It has been at this price and been selling for so long i really doubt it is a fire sale by retailers that resulted in the low price, sega knows this is a sweet price point and is milking it as long as they can. They are probably selling it for $10 to retailers.
oni-link (on 05 February 2010)
good sales despite the piracy issue:http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=6352
oni-link (on 05 February 2010)
@Tuulik

Don't forget the fact that HOTD2-3 also sold at $20-$30 when it first came out. That it barely had any competition aside RE:UC and was massively featured in many gaming sites before it was released!
Red4ADevil (on 05 February 2010)
Damn It went up to reach almost 600K. Last time i checkec, it was at like 500K
jagleics (on 31 January 2010)
This game is so ace for the price you can get it, come on Sega work on a new awesome sequel but don't rush some rubbish out.
Tuulikk (on 30 January 2010)
@ kopstudent89

I did not know The House of the Dead: Overkill had stopped selling. Maybe because it has not.

Further more, the previous game took a long time to get to where it is now, at about the same speed as this one.

It also came out in a different time where core gamers was starving for a core game, before many gamers got tired of waiting for good games and then getting a second console.

It's also a classic non expensive game pack for people wanting to relive previous times. And it was before many people got tired of on-rail shooters.

Overkill is doing good. Many people who pick it up ain't doing it as a first choice, but thats okay.
Kwaidd (on 22 January 2010)
rediculously entertaining and fun game. especially at the price its sporting these days, so worth the buy.
kopstudent89 (on 21 January 2010)
umm if HoD: 2 &3 sold 1 million, i think a fully fledged Wii game selling half that isnt really succesful. Sure its legging out now, but its selling at $20 which isnt a major achievement.
oni-link (on 20 January 2010)
570K in total sales with almost a month left before it hits 1 year is definitely good!!!
dark_gh0st_b0y (on 19 January 2010)
wtf is Sega saying their hard core Wii games don't sell?
italo244 (on 18 January 2010)
Maybe a million seller in 2010/2011
pots555 (on 15 January 2010)
Just bought it. Hope it's good.
oni-link (on 15 January 2010)
570K in sales when the average price of the game is still $20; is pretty darn good. Half those numbers were when the game was still selling for $30 and up; Sega definitely made a profit!
bmmb1 (on 15 January 2010)
@kopstudent the guy that talked about stopping mature content was not a Sega top guy, and Sega have stated several times that they are happy with this game's sales, .
Diglet (on 14 January 2010)
They have defiantly profited from this game.
Tuulikk (on 13 January 2010)
600k sounds like good sales to me. Not there yet but oh so soon.

Now 007: Quantum of Solace and Iron Man has fallen behind HotD: Overkill.

And about the piracy, yes it affects, but I think a few of the pirates at least are buying the game as it is pretty close to free with a nice box and all.
BigGumby (on 13 January 2010)
made about 8.4 million if it sold this many units at only 15 dollars, of course alot of copies were sold for around 50 bucks too.
oni-link (on 11 January 2010)
with all said I picked this up for $15 at amazon cuz it's a great title. It sold quite well and at the very least should have Sega breaking even if not profit a bit. After all games like Bionic Commando, Too Human, Folklore, N9 nights, Perfect Dark etc also bombed on HD consoles and sold these numbers at liquidation price and those games COST A GREAT DEAL MORE!!! ( BTW I got those games as well when they were at liquid prices ;P )
oni-link (on 11 January 2010)
3 top reasons why this game didn't sell well

#1. Piracy: http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=6352 this game was pirated 900k times easily denting it's sales potential.
#2. Initial Price Point Wrong: Sega should have sold this game for $30-$40 as it was a rail shooter and nobody wants to pay $50 for a rail shooter. If they went with $30 they would have dented the effects of piracy on their games as well!!!
#3. Advertisement/Impression all wrong: Not only did this game have minimal advertising ( I honestly never saw TV, Magazine, or Posters boards at gaming stores) but less than a month Sega/retailers also kept fluctuating the price keeping gamers at bay until the price stabilized.

kopstudent89 (on 10 January 2010)
plz sega said they want to stop the mature content in their games, and u still think this made a huge profit?
krammaii (on 10 January 2010)
There's a difference between selling a half a million at full price and selling a half a million at $19.99. I doubt this game made much profit at all... I've seen this game for $14.99 new which means they are just trying to liquidate stock.
BigGumby (on 10 January 2010)
A game doesn't have to sell a million to make a profit, or to not be considered a flop. This probably, as Chrizum said, made SEGA millions upon millions of dollars.
Nintendogamer (on 10 January 2010)
wow 540K already, I think any game with low advetising and sells over half a Million is not a flop.
Chrizum (on 10 January 2010)
This game was obviously extremely low budget. There's only about 3 hours of content here for crying out loud.

Trust me, this game has made Sega millions upon millions.
johnsobas (on 10 January 2010)
can people stop calling this game a flop already. 540k is more than enough for an on rails shooter. It should be seen at least as a mild success at this point.
Product (on 10 January 2010)
how did this title do 14,000 this late in its life cycle? ioi, you want me to believe this?
adam84 (on 06 January 2010)
so glad to see this doing well...finally.
Hobowan (on 04 January 2010)
i reckon this will get to 600,000 after 1 whole year on the market.
Lifetime 750,000?

not too shabby, though theyd have liked a mill im sure.
kopstudent89 (on 04 January 2010)
wow 500k, wonder where it will end though
Majin-Tenshinhan (on 04 January 2010)
This has some pretty stable legs. One million may not be out of the question.
PhantomLink (on 03 January 2010)
Flop because Wii games flops
J.U.N.O (on 29 December 2009)
Just bought it... great game. By the way the cursing was hillarous...
Nintendogamer (on 26 December 2009)
490,000! almost 0,500,000
swordplay (on 18 December 2009)
Fantastic game, best $10 I've spent. The only the thing I found annoying was the cursing.
Cooke15 (on 16 December 2009)
Just bought it, Love this game!!
Tuulikk (on 12 December 2009)
Looks like they are correcting a overtracking. Hopefully we will see the numbers rise again soon.
Falk Sturmfels (on 28 November 2009)
Wasnt this before on 440k?
Siko1989 (on 26 November 2009)
wow does Japanese like any game at all? i never seen 1 good game that actually sell in japan only Japanese RPG's and Japanese games in general only sell
Skorpion (on 17 November 2009)
Couldn't resist a $13 wii game. +1 from me.
oni-link (on 11 November 2009)
newegg currently has it on sale for $13 if anyone is interested.
Tuulikk (on 10 November 2009)
Nice to see this game taking on Bully: Scholarship Edition and soon No More Heroes.

House of the Dead: Overkill will sell over 500k and leave many core gamers behind and become one of the best selling third party core games on Wii.
Ratix240sx (on 26 October 2009)
i was hoping to see some ads for halloween...
oni-link (on 26 October 2009)
should sell 500k easily and maybe 600k-700k max!!!
oni-link (on 26 October 2009)
Another game that ppl said would flop based on intitial sales. I guess they don't realize that most Wii games sell in the long run; which is good as all the shovelware gets sorted out now and receives terrible sales. This bodes well for Dead Space:Extraction (though they really could have changed the terrible box art as they turned a lot of ppl off)
Fleeman (on 25 October 2009)
out of the big 3 that sega published i didn't think this would sell the most over 7000 copies last week between all the regions
Kwaidd (on 25 October 2009)
cannot believe how rediculously entertaining this game is. over the top gratuitous violence, blood, cursing and absolute fun. why did i wait so long to play it?
adam84 (on 24 October 2009)
@spurgeonryan
spot on, lets hope we get a 2nd game :-)
FaRmLaNd (on 24 October 2009)
It'll be interesting to see if this has a good Christmas boost or not.
spurgeonryan (on 23 October 2009)
So like usual everyone who cried bomb are wrong.
MEnkeli (on 21 October 2009)
Oh man this is a great game! Every Wii owner should have this. I'm just hoping for a sequel that would be longer and that would adress the occasional slowing down of the frame rate.

As it is the game is well worth the money they are asking for it!
SaviorX (on 18 October 2009)
I would never consider buying this game for more than $12.

So the fact that HOTD:O sold this much at price points above $12 makes Sega very fortunate. The legs will last it a long time.
DavidValbu (on 18 October 2009)
Sega must be happy with this sales. The budget for this game must be really low.
atma998 (on 18 October 2009)
The game have pretty good legs.
YesWiiCan (on 17 October 2009)
woot 400k
Next Goal: 500k
adam84 (on 15 October 2009)
this is a great game, 700k would be nice and sure it will do it.
WiiBox3 (on 15 October 2009)
This game is great!
primogen18 (on 12 October 2009)
I agree with volitaire, this has the legs to go to 700k, especially with the holidays coming up and the many who have 2/3 who don't have this, itll be a good gift.
Tuulikk (on 11 October 2009)
@ spurgeonryan: Monster Hunter 3 is tracking up to 1m faster then Super Mario Galaxy in Japan and will reach 1m and over.

Why The House of the Dead: Overkill and so many other games don't sell in Japan, I don't know.
Chrizum (on 09 October 2009)
LOL, MH3 is the best selling third party console game in Japan of the entire generation. Trolling attempt failed!
spurgeonryan (on 09 October 2009)
What doe the japanese market want? Does nintendo need to make a GRan turismo clone so they will start buying wii games? And Im not just talking about this game. I know wii play and sports and fit and that stuff sell great, but when MH3 can't barely get to a million, there is a problem with...them ..not nintendo. Thats what i think.
Voltaire (on 08 October 2009)
Very good. Easily profitable. Might not reach 1million, but itll get to 700k soon.
Product (on 05 October 2009)
Who would have thought this game was going to outsell Madworld?
Sega has already stated that this game has been very "successful" (profitable) for them.
Tuulikk (on 02 October 2009)
@ spurgeonryan - 400k ain't bad, so maybe. If not in the profit zone at that level, then it will be there soon.

I will buy this game some day.
spurgeonryan (on 29 September 2009)
Ok. So can everyone agree that 400,000 will make a good profit for a light game? CAn christmas get it to 500 thou. by this March?
primogen18 (on 29 September 2009)
wheres more japanese sales?
stof (on 27 September 2009)
because half of those sales are from the Japanese release guys
spurgeonryan (on 26 September 2009)
Did it get a price cut?
ash3336 (on 25 September 2009)
10k this week. nice.
Red4ADevil (on 19 September 2009)
400k here we come!
intro94 (on 18 September 2009)
And.. i forgot.the game is getting launched in Japan. Not the biggest market, but the franchise is known there.
intro94 (on 18 September 2009)
@Killergran, adjustments do happen.also sales rise. If only WAW sold at its starting levels, it would have never reached the million it did. Its sales rose drastically during holidays.
Just a reminder, this site reported WAW at 150k after 3 months.
6 months later it was over 1 Million.2 years happened a bit too fast huh?
spurgeonryan (on 10 September 2009)
And we can't forget the holidays?
SuperJon (on 04 September 2009)
Oh don't be silly. It still costs fifty dollars. Once Sega drops this wizard to about thirty or twenty dollars, it'll sell like gangbusters.
Killergran (on 04 September 2009)
@primogen18, to reach one million it'll have to sell at current levels for 2 and a half more years. That's not going to happen.
primogen18 (on 24 August 2009)
this has some decent legs, I can see a millionth seller over time really.
joshx (on 17 August 2009)
Great game a little short but great game
MarioGalaxy (on 07 August 2009)
Don't worry, this game 'll have legs for the next months, so expect final sales close to 1M. And i think that the sales 'll rise a lot during Xmas. For the moment I think it's doing well. ;)
zzyoshiman (on 30 July 2009)
it'll get higher sales when it's released in japan
MonstaMack (on 29 July 2009)
Sales are getting really, really low. Wonder how long till we see $20 MSRP.
MonstaMack (on 15 July 2009)
It's now $30 MRSP in the United States (Wal-Mart brick and mortar, Best Buy B&M and Gamestop B&M and online).
hansolo14 (on 11 July 2009)
@Voltaire
and remember that its still at full price!! lets wait for xmas to see if it can reach 500k but at the moment this sales are awesome
st_muscat0 (on 08 July 2009)
320K next week.
Voltaire (on 01 July 2009)
Theres no reason to bitch, these sales are incredible for a 4 hour game.
SJGohan3972 (on 30 June 2009)
300k, on its way to 500k not so bad as some people were making it out to be.
dark_gh0st_b0y (on 26 June 2009)
it will be 1m after 2 years!
fairyliar (on 24 June 2009)
there is still no price drop here in France (55 EUR for the game).
30 would be a nice price to boost the sales just like it was for the "return" pack
ash3336 (on 23 June 2009)
The price drop should mean the sales go up. On-rails just turns a lot of people away. Maybe they can be creative and think of something fresh and unique.
rockleemexico (on 23 June 2009)
it will reach at least 400k, since when is that a bad number?. its doing fine
primogen18 (on 22 June 2009)
If you're thinking a sequel to HOTD:O has any chance of not being a rails shooter, what are you smoking? If that is what you were saying. This game still has some decent legs so I see it selling pretty well.
ash3336 (on 20 June 2009)
I just hope it is not an on-rails shooter. A LOT of people are turned away because of it.
megaman79 (on 19 June 2009)
yea its cool, im glad you appreciate fine intellectual comedy like that.

Take note that im convinced a sequel or VC remake will be confirmed after another 100k.
ash3336 (on 18 June 2009)
AS funny as that comment was, it is so not true. Wii has plenty hardcore games that are not necessarily Mature. Now hardcore games are being made and released that are Mature. Sure this game and MadWorld did not sell amazingly, but they will sell enough to ensure profit considering the low budget costs for Wii development.

If it took 5 million each to develop games that means the total cost was 10 million. Add another 2 million for advertising.

Both games combined sold 500k copies at full price. If SEGA sold each copy to retailers at $30 that means that 30 times 500000 = $15 million.

That is 3 million profit already. Even if the development cost was a bit more, they would be in profit already. With no price drop for Overkill, and recent price drop for MadWorld, sales will increase and profit will increase.
megaman79 (on 16 June 2009)
The hardcore you've been waiting too long for so you bought a 360 or PS3 instead.
ash3336 (on 15 June 2009)
If this hits atleast 600k, that is a more reasonable prediction and an amazing number to claim a hit.
dark_gh0st_b0y (on 11 June 2009)
this game rules, sales will be for sure 1m, but it may take something like 2 years, when 2&3 will be given for free and this will be cheaper : P
megaman79 (on 09 June 2009)
I think when it hits 350 - 400k they will announce a sequel or Virtua Cop
ash3336 (on 07 June 2009)
Adjusted down....Still pretty ok i guess.
ash3336 (on 31 May 2009)
This costs about 3 times as much as HotD2&3. This is 50 bux (60 in Canada) and 2&3 costs 20.
steven787 (on 30 May 2009)
I am with you Viva La Wiida, I don't understand why HOTD2&3 outsells this. This is so much better.
ash3336 (on 28 May 2009)
Selling pretty good according to me as of now. I am seeing this at about 700k lifetime.
ash3336 (on 26 May 2009)
$30?????? Ill buy this and MadWorld together in Christmas time.
sam941972 (on 23 May 2009)
In France 30 euros too
Vil3 (on 18 May 2009)
its becouse off the price..
VivaLaWiida (on 18 May 2009)
House of the dead 2 & 3 sold this week more than overkill.
wtf?!
mfogg20 (on 17 May 2009)
$30 now on amazon
bubsby (on 13 May 2009)
Light-gun games are like B-Movies - cheap and easy to make and therefore quick to turn a profit. Of course, the irony here is that HOtD:O itself is a B-Movie =)
CONMAN15 (on 13 May 2009)
Yeah this has been legging it out. Done quite well in others region.
Fido (on 13 May 2009)
It still costs the same as it dit when it launched where i live. But i also think this could be able to sell a million with a lower price.
naruto3336 (on 12 May 2009)
Will reach 600k for sure and with legs like HOTD2and3 it can definitely sell a million.
mangapicture (on 11 May 2009)
they really need to release this in japan...
naruto3336 (on 03 May 2009)
This game got a price drop? I thought it costs the same...
megaman79 (on 03 May 2009)
selling better than Madworld. This whole drop the price early theory just shouldn't be so quickly applied to Wii games, but whatever, what do i know.
SaviorX (on 02 May 2009)
250k after 10 weeks with decent "legs" on the horizon.

Will pass 600k some day.
Red4ADevil (on 29 April 2009)
Thats 12.5 million bucks for a game im pretty sure didnt cost more than what it made hopefully when the holiday season hits it will get a decent/alright boost.
Chrizum (on 28 April 2009)
250k after 10 weeks. Nice.
XiaoMay (on 28 April 2009)
toooo easy, and I Prefered HoD2&3, but not a bad game at all
CONMAN15 (on 27 April 2009)
Keep on chugging along.
PeteyPeeps (on 25 April 2009)
great game! script is helerious!
primogen18 (on 24 April 2009)
I agree buxtoc, this will sell fine.
FaRmLaNd (on 23 April 2009)
Mr brother got this today. Co-op is awesome. The script is hilariously bad.
buxtoc (on 23 April 2009)
Every Wii owner I know bought HotD 2&3... I'm sure this will continue to sell for a long, long time
Cheebee (on 17 April 2009)
I just got this game today, already completed it once, but the replay value seems incredible. It looks way better than I expected too, love the style. :)
This is one great game, and definitely much better than umbrella Chronicles.
naruto3336 (on 14 April 2009)
15k per week is all this game needs. Some kind of holiday boost will boost it some bit and it will get to 1 million soon.
DOLBYdigital (on 14 April 2009)
Hopefully this game keeps selling especially with a price drop. I would love to see this get to a million in sales. Headstrong is working on a sequel and is rumored to want to bring Virtual Cop back as well :)
primogen18 (on 13 April 2009)
Im with intro here, I mean its not dropping that fast, it's already up to 200K, I see this being a slow but steady seller like most Wii games.
naruto3336 (on 12 April 2009)
This game is slowing down really fast. CoD:WaW Wii beat this in sales this week. DO sumtin bout it!
intro94 (on 11 April 2009)
200k really fast..million seller on the way.Well,it deserves it,great game.Short but huge replay value.
mmpop (on 09 April 2009)
This game is a House of the dead franshise which will mean that it will sell very very slowly but in a very long run. Its like Street Fighter IV, sure the sales are maybe small but it will sell in a long run. So in one year this maybe will become a million seller.
teknohick (on 09 April 2009)
considering it hasn't seen a price mark down in the u.s., i wouldn't worry too much about its sales and segas expectations... though they have been more aggressive to capitalize on the increased interest in the game in Europe with price promos

as for the game coming to japan, don't hold your breath, this is a very western-conceptualized HOTD... they would have to change a lot to get past JP ratings, much of the concept would be lost on JP gamers and HOTD fans

it def would be a risk, the game could get attention for its western look or completely bomb for not following the traditional HOTD arcade look
mpereira (on 08 April 2009)
this game hasn't been released in japan ;)
jjappleby (on 08 April 2009)
u guys do notice its not showing the sales in japan, has it not been released there
scottie (on 08 April 2009)
Hopefully it will reach 300k??

Um, it's trending about the same as HotD 2 & 3, which is over a million
jeffrey9999 (on 07 April 2009)
1million copies will sell if they drop it down to 10$ and I don't see why they don't because the cost is shipping/packaging/and manufacturing, because the game is already out it has already been made they should just keep doing price drops on their games when the game isn't selling instead of giving up on the game, and not printing it anymore...........not like they make the game everytime they just copy it anyway, it's probably the best way to sell a hardcore game on wii........
CONMAN15 (on 07 April 2009)
If sales dont pick up much maybe we will see a price drop. Sega is probably happ because this has sold a fair bit at the 50$ price point. Maybe 30$ soon, and sales would pick back up. I wouldnt say 1 million copies is out of the question yet.
mangapicture (on 07 April 2009)
why don''t they bring this out in Japan?
sabby_e17 (on 07 April 2009)
hopefully this will reach 300k
SaviorX (on 06 April 2009)
Sega is REALLY happy with HOD's sales right now. It has"absolutely" met their expectations.

DOLBYdigital (on 06 April 2009)
I would like to see more sales but I agree that many people are waiting for a price drop. Either way this is a great game and a nice addition to the Wii library.
Red4ADevil (on 04 April 2009)
Sega has my support, cause they have my 50 bucks.
KingHenry (on 03 April 2009)
@coonana
I think wii owners expect cheap games, or they predict that there will be a price drop of the game in the near future. Either one of those, or wii owners are just cheap.
Cobretti2 (on 03 April 2009)
This game costs $69AUS when I got it.

This is cheap, since most games here are around the 90-100 mark AUS, which is double the $50US.

so in real terms this is a $35US game here.

The limited edition one with the 2 x cannons, is $100AU. (plastic gun shells for the wii remotes).
teknohick (on 03 April 2009)
200k ww and it hasnt price collapsed is good, should have nice legs esp as the price progresses
naruto3336 (on 02 April 2009)
This game along with MadWorld are affected with sales because of the lenght of the game. Hopefully a price drop SOON may impact the sales. even 5 bux can help.
TopCat (on 02 April 2009)
@coonana HOTD 2 & 3 id cost $30 when it came out.... This costs $50 not and it continues to sell well. When HOTD : Overkill 's price drops to $30 - $35 then the sales will explode. At least that's what I think.....
coonana (on 02 April 2009)
It baffles me that a new game struggles to beat its predecessor, a port mind you. What is wrong with Wii consumers?
naruto3336 (on 01 April 2009)
This game is selling well.
outlawauron (on 31 March 2009)
I'm enjoying this one.
Majin-Tenshinhan (on 30 March 2009)
Haven't played this game, but I'm sure it's a good game... However, it is not showing the same legs that HotD 2&3 did on Wii... Therefore, I think 1 million for this title might be unlikely.
primogen18 (on 30 March 2009)
This game is great, but not $50 worth in length alone, a price cut would help this alot.

routsounmanman (on 29 March 2009)
Love this game; fast, crazy and really fun especially in co-op.

Played RE:UC just after that and it played so cluncky and slow.
CONMAN15 (on 28 March 2009)
I'd say your about right with that prediction. The conduit alone could do 2 million.
naruto3336 (on 27 March 2009)
Who wants to make a bet with me? The 4 big Sega Wii titles this year are going to sell 4 million altogether. The titles include this, sonic black knight, madworld, and the conduit. I say all of these together will sell around 4 million altogether. Though I would say 5 million but 4 million is good too.
kopstudent89 (on 27 March 2009)
hey guys, wii is about legs... 3 months from now we'll see where this is, and if it can hold on to the holidays, this will be a million seller. I still predict it to be, madworld, well i dont know
SaviorX (on 26 March 2009)
Others is going to be what supports this game it seems.
Valkyria00 (on 26 March 2009)
Didnt know Europe liked HoTD so much.
Chrizum (on 24 March 2009)
@guy below me: in US in february only.
redsoxfan9477 (on 24 March 2009)
other websites are saying this only sold 50k.
SaviorX (on 23 March 2009)
Well, the game seems to have some legs on it.

It'll pass 250k at the $50 price point. When they decide to cut it, sales will get better.
Games fanboy (on 23 March 2009)
They will not cut the price anytime soon as it sells really well .
But these numbers here are a bit off with 20 000 k to low ?
teknohick (on 22 March 2009)
sold 49k in 2 weeks of feb ndp, so the number is a bit off...

sega will probably get to 100k in america before having to cut the price, it'll def pick up when it hits the 40-30 dollar range

50 dollars is somewhat of a premium price on wii, moving 100k+ copies for such a title at full price wouldn't be too bad
Jumpin (on 22 March 2009)
I actually enjoy this game a lot more than I do MadWorld. It's just way more fun. If this game were a movie, it would be Scarface meets Evil Dead, taken and directed by Quinton Tarantino.

As far as dialogue and music go, it blows MadWorld sky-high out of the water. The gameplay is simple, but it is varied and fast paced. I just found MadWorld (at least the first 45 minutes) to be very dark and repetetive.

Again, different audience; MadWorld is for Comicbook nerds (whose wet dream is a steroid pumped psychopath who just spends his time killing people in black and white), whereas House of the Dead: Overkill is for movie geeks who are into the whole B-Movie and over the top movies from the 70's and 80's scene (IE. Army of Darkness for a B-movie, A Clockwork Orange or Scarface for the movies that did/almost got an X-rating).

Solid package, best soundtrack on the system (and one of the best of all time), I would argue the most fun script as well. One of my favourite Wii games to date.
alvarito (on 22 March 2009)
when this game for japon??
naruto3336 (on 21 March 2009)
SEGA released 3 of its 4 most anticipated wii titles of the year. The 3 of them being Hotd:O, Sonic and the Black Knight and Madworld. These three sold 300k as of now. More than half of which is HotD. But soon Madworld will kill it. And then soon enough The Conduit will kill all of them.
VivaLaWiida (on 21 March 2009)
Hopefully the sales won't die :S
naruto3336 (on 20 March 2009)
MadWorld is wayyyy better than this game hands down.
Hyperion (on 20 March 2009)
Madworld is a better game than this, d2lewis XD
HotD is fun, but it's soo easy. You should have kept Madworld. This game is even shorter XD
gunslinger (on 19 March 2009)
well, most people don't want to spend $50 on an on-rails shooter game. I expect it will pick up in sales when it goes down to $20-30.
d21lewis (on 19 March 2009)
Bought this and Madworld today, but wound up returning Madworld. I've been buying too many games lately. I hope I made the right choice.......
CONMAN15 (on 19 March 2009)
Darn looks like its dropping off a bit. Hopefully it can at least hold over 20k a week WW.
naruto3336 (on 19 March 2009)
AMAZING!
johnsobas (on 18 March 2009)
i expect good legs in the west, 500k - 1 million is my guess.
CONMAN15 (on 17 March 2009)
That;d be pretty sweet. I've never played virtua cop but I like seeing established on rail shooters, instead of games of other genres getting on-rail, spin off games.
megaman79 (on 17 March 2009)
@CONMAN15, They said they wanted to do Virtual Cop
CONMAN15 (on 17 March 2009)
I wonder if they care that wii just got 2 more on rails shooters, when considering a sequel. Unless the sequel for this was already in dev, I bet they make a game from a different genre.
megaman79 (on 16 March 2009)
HOTD back up a few spots in Gfk Uk this week.

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110032

the 2nd wave, hopefully in conjunction with MW, will keep it going for a while longer

Tough purchase at $50 for a short game. Will definitely play eventually, once it drops in price ($30).
jefforange89 (on 16 March 2009)
This game is amazing, I hope Sega ends up happy with it's results so that they commission sequel.
AkiraGr (on 14 March 2009)
Headstrong games made a jewel. It's a great game besides the technical shortcomings.

The game is only a few hours long but man its a great few hours.
Valkyria00 (on 12 March 2009)
Short but holy shit is it awesome. It funny and so damn disgusting. You cant hate it. Unless I play Co-Op Im not going back to it though. Too many games to play.
Lolcislaw (on 12 March 2009)
Good sales, it should develop good legs in both NA and Others. Launch could've been better but this genre proved to be succesful on the Wii in the past.
famousringo (on 12 March 2009)
This game will get most of its sales at reduced prices. Good word of mouth, good reviews, and a $30 price tag will keep this one selling for ages.
Hyperion (on 12 March 2009)
I hope sega doesn't think this game is a flop just yet. They'll understand that this game will sell slowly, right? I see it reaching a million by the end of the year, but hopefully quicker.
megaman79 (on 12 March 2009)

DOLBYdigital (on 10 March 2009)
I am very disappointed with these sales! This game is easily the best lightgun game for the Wii and already has its place amongst the classics. The team wants to work on other great gems like Virtua Cop but maybe they won't get a chance to :(
XiaoMay (on 10 March 2009)
this game is GREAT, for sure

60 is a BIT expensive, 50 would have been more apropriate...

CONMAN15 (on 07 March 2009)
will this come out in japan?
GianCarmen (on 07 March 2009)
Great game with an over the top story. Agent G and Washington are the best odd couple that i have seen in a video game. You can feel the love between them. One thing that was kind of a bummer was that it was way to damn easy and short. Playing the story mode and updating just the regular hand gun and the regular shotgun I beat the game in less than 3 hours. Playing in the directors mode, the first couple chapters were a bitch with more zombies coming after you. Then I updated to the automatic shotgun to the max and the Hand cannon. Flew right through the game. One shot kills are great but it made the game way easier. I am not a fan of on rails, but this game made me a believer. If they add an online to the sequel, that will be bread and butter.
AkiraGr (on 06 March 2009)

ok sales.. nothing great.. should have legs and eventually touch the mil mark
Mafaveli (on 28 February 2009)
why is the game videos posted for this game house of the dead 2 & 3?
thanny (on 28 February 2009)
okay. The Wii install base is roughly 1/20 of that in America. Assuming that the tie ratio is fairly even, then that would mean that at this time of the year the 6th top selling game would sell around 1400 copies...

So, not very impacting on others, is it?
coonana (on 28 February 2009)
@--OkeyDokey--

Oh okay, its just that all these comments were directed at me.
Whoever thinks that is insane. Thats very good.

It also makes me think that the sales are undertracked because that would suggest that the top 6 game in the country of australia was less than 20,000
alekth (on 28 February 2009)
Not my genre but very enjoyable. The hand cannon that's available with it (or separately) in Europe and Australia is great!
Onimusha12 (on 28 February 2009)
Oh OkeyDokey, you're my favorite Troll.
avigeant83 (on 28 February 2009)
This game is insane!
--OkeyDokey-- (on 27 February 2009)
@ coona
Everyone was complaining that it was too low and pointing out that it charted at #6 in Australia without realising how tiny the Australian market is...
naruto3336 (on 27 February 2009)
This game took all the sales of the other 2 games in the big 3. Deadly Creatures got less than 6k opening week.
Luthor (on 27 February 2009)
I love this game!
coonana (on 27 February 2009)
@--OkeyDokey--
What are you talking about....

Secondly I still think this is undertracked. Both first week sales for US and Other had less than a week and then the next week wasnt much of an increase.
dark_gh0st_b0y (on 26 February 2009)
nice!
jim1029 (on 26 February 2009)

alfredofroylan (on 26 February 2009)
Better sales on the second week. Quite normal for a Wii game, this one deserves to sell a lot of copies
Myviewing (on 26 February 2009)
I forsee a million seller in the future....
megaman79 (on 26 February 2009)
@coonana i wasn't disputing what u said. I agree
@Okey, you must get paid well for these clever trolling comments

Meanwhile HOTD is doing excellent for a core title in both US and Pal
--OkeyDokey-- (on 26 February 2009)
Why are they too low? #6 on the Australian chart at this time of the year would probably be less than a thousand copies sold.
coonana (on 25 February 2009)
These numbers definitely are too low.

@megaman79 I never said that wasnt good. I said it was really good they bought that much.

Support this game everyone and Madworl and The Conduit.
MonstaMack (on 25 February 2009)
I want to get it but I can't help but think it will be on sale for $30 within three months. So I guess I can wait for now.

CONMAN15 (on 25 February 2009)
1st week got adjusted down but Im still happy to see it put in 20k second week! This baby should have a nice sales number beside it when its all said and done.

nice, another 20k
DOLBYdigital (on 25 February 2009)
The UK and AU people are really coming through and supporting this quality light gun game. There is no reason that this game shouldn't sell well since it kicks @ss!

Please support this rockin game or at least one of the hardcore games coming to the Wii.
mfogg20 (on 25 February 2009)
Something seems wrong with these numbers... the game was supposed to increase 30% from week one to week two in the UK. Which matches up perfectly here.

But I thought it was released in all the other euro countries this week as well??
buxtoc (on 25 February 2009)
This weeks chart only reflects one days worth of sales though...

53 VG people have this already. Thats impressive. I think the wii fans really went out to support this.
Chrizum (on 24 February 2009)

megaman79 (on 24 February 2009)
mfogg20 is correct, HOTD has actually gone from 10 to 9 on the All formats UK Unit rank for this week 21/2

Also of note its 3rd in the Wii rankings for the 2nd week in a row, its already lookin a bit leggy
SnowFlow (on 24 February 2009)

mfogg20 (on 23 February 2009)
Sales rose 30% in the UK in its second week according to the latest charts! So we can expect around 27,000 just from the UK next week.. add in the other euro countries and we could have a 40,000 second week
kazuma (on 23 February 2009)
This game was banned in Germany (as well for Madworld) if i remember
Seferoth75 (on 22 February 2009)
Game will not sale as much as it could have in the US. When I bought my copy at Gamestop the clerk let me know that they were almost out because they only got 6 copies in and that would most likely be the last of them. He was trying to get me to pre order a copy of Madworld while doing this. Also saying that they would only be getting in 3 copies of the game.
coonana (on 22 February 2009)
This game only has been tracked for 4 days remember
DavidValbu (on 22 February 2009)
The game was only released in UK, not in the rest of Others.
Chrizum (on 22 February 2009)
I find these opening sales very surprising.

Overkill was no.10 on the UK charts, seems it sold most of the units in the UK. Doesn't the rest of Others like zombie shooters?
Vil3 (on 22 February 2009)
this game will sell 30 000+ next week
kazuma (on 22 February 2009)
Yeah good start considering it went on sell in France only on Friday
Fenristh (on 22 February 2009)
It's not a good start at all.
CONMAN15 (on 22 February 2009)
Good start and lets hope it continues at a good rate.
Seece (on 22 February 2009)
@Phoenix_Wiight, practically all games are released on a friday in PAL. So thats not a very good excuse for the low sale numbers ... look at Fear 2...
Phoenix_Wiight (on 22 February 2009)
actually, there are numbers from only the 13th and 14th, so 20k isnt bad at all
drakesfortune (on 22 February 2009)
Yikes, rough opening numbers in others.
HELLFISH (on 21 February 2009)
picked this one up yesteday and finally got to play this morning... LOVING THIS GAME! It's completely awesome. They went a little overboard on the f-bombs but i guess that fits in with the overkill name.
primogen18 (on 20 February 2009)
In an interview Sega and Headstrong mentioned a possible sequel, and a while back something was said that if 2 and 3/overkill do well, HOTD4 might be ported to Wii, which would be great. Though if i HAD to choose between the Wii HOTD4 and this one:
http://www.arcadebelgium.be/ab.php?l=en&r=art&p=archotd4sp
Id so choose that one.. LOL

Ah, boneark, I saw the exact same commercial. I had never known they existed on actual TV, but alas you have proven me wrong and I am content, lol.

I just saw a commercial of this game while watching WWE Monday Night RAW. It showed this game and at the end it showed a preview of MadWorld.

@paulkelly, You seen the teaser for the new Tarantino flick, Inglorious Barstards?

http://movies.yahoo.com/premieres/11990378

personally i think it looks hollywood, but whatever
megaman79 (on 16 February 2009)
Its no.10 in Uk. Fear 2 charted 7th but this did really well for a "core" title. http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=60714&page=1
primogen18 (on 15 February 2009)
@boneark, ive never seen commercials for those, but you're probably right aboud CoD having them. It's just rare for me to see the Wii version advertised anywhere else though. (it takes too much ink to add "Wii" after "avail for 360 and PS3" on most store paper inserts)

Anyway, this game is a blast. So much to unlock, a directors cut that adds a surprising amount to the game, and lots of fun gore. I hope this does well, and not just from a hardcore M rated standpoint, but its just that fun of a game/well put together. This gamed also comes with an ad for Madworld (as well as an unlockable trailer in the game itself) and an insert for Conduit, so I'm all for spreading the word on other good looking games.
paulkelly1980 (on 15 February 2009)
After playing this game i pray that quentin tarantino makes a pulp fiction type of game
CONMAN15 (on 14 February 2009)
Apparently there is commercials on cpike tv, but I havent seen one so I cant confirm.

I have definately been enjoying this game though. Absolutely hilarious, and way over the top. Its addictive trying to chain combos too,

Everyone GO BUY IT! We need a sequel.
DOLBYdigital (on 14 February 2009)
Easily the BEST rail shooter available for the Wii. The style is fantastic and the music is really really good. Add in a funny story with excellent voice acting and tons of unlockables and upgradable weapons. This game is really fun!

You will NOT see commercials for this game, it is VERY hardcore and the marketing budget is small. Its hard to get a screenshot that doesn't have blood, brains, and guts all over the place ;)

Spread the word about this one, very good time!
buxtoc (on 14 February 2009)
UK TV has seen this advertised FYI
ECC (on 14 February 2009)
got the game and its fun really fun.
gunslinger (on 13 February 2009)
I blindly bought this game and have been having a blast with it ever since! Yes, it is VERY vulgar, but it lends to it's B movie vibe very well. I don't think I will ever get sick of this game. I actually don't mind replaying levels with this game, which hardly ever happens with me. Well worth the money for those interested in this type of game.
Zucas (on 13 February 2009)
Bone- they could never advertise this game on TV. It's not like your average bloody shooter. This game is so vulgar among other things, there's no way anyone, even Sega, would risk advertising this. I mean when ever other word is the F-Bomb, it ain't happening.

Anyways I love the game. I love the over the top aspects of it, including the vulgarity. Solid game.
BengaBenga (on 13 February 2009)
This game is awesome as hell. It's been a long time since I actually genuinely had to laugh because of a game. The dialogues are hilarious.

It's also been a while that high-scores are important! That's for the true hardcore.

SEGA thank you... for releasing a true light gun game that will challenge even the most hardcore gamers and give them rewards as well.

This will blow away all other light gun games for some time to come. Unless of coarse they decide to release an updated Panzer Dragoon Orta or sequel ;)

Dismemberment, decapitations, slo-mo, grind house style and comedy, and unlockable/upgradable guns!

I will get this game for a couple b-day gifts as well.

First day buy for me. A grindhouse style house of the dead is like a dream come true. (Or a nightmare whatever)

No sequel news, but Sega is porting this
to the PS3 Move. Unfortunately the
assumption that the Wii version
undersold is given more validity
(obviously untrue).
