atma998 (on 19 November 2014)
Now @ 29.53M, the game still sold about 300k since last year. 30M is not out of reach even though DS is quite dead now.
leedlelee (on 23 October 2013)
This is still probably my favorite NSMB game...
Though I did have a blast playing NSMB Wii with friends...
I just hope Nintendo takes it easy with all the NSMB for a little while...
Give us time to want another one...
supermariouniverse (on 24 August 2013)
The game that brought back the 2D Mario craze...can you imagine if Nintendo just did this earlier? New Super Mario Bros 64/Gamecube would have been huge!
atma998 (on 02 July 2013)
29.21M I wonder if this game is still selling?
axumblade (on 26 March 2013)
@fedfed I am not sure either but it did almost sell 10k this week.
fedfed (on 02 January 2013)
I don't think this game will ever reach 30 mil. it is a shame! teh only hope is a bundle at $99 Dsi!
tbone51 (on 31 December 2012)
30mil by next years end! 32mil lifetime!
Lets go Nintendo!
supermariodance (on 22 December 2012)
This game will reach 29m for sure.
Paul (on 17 December 2012)
in the membrane.
DieAppleDie (on 02 October 2012)
ganoncrotch (on 11 July 2012)
still in the top 100 after 6 years.... and it deserves to be there really, any DS or 3ds owner should have this game. Amazing classic mario action. +4player single cart mario party style multiplayer, well tasty.
Hibern81 (on 23 June 2012)
This was the first game I bought for my DS. I can't wait till part 2 come out!
acdcste (on 25 April 2012)
Nintendo are praying the 3ds sequel sells as well as this did.
spurgeonryan (on 01 April 2012)
eww! Yucky... I do not like those screenshots.
Kai Master (on 10 February 2012)
Superb adjustment ! 28m and selling 2m/year : It could reach 30m at the end of the year or as a final sales number.
Kai Master (on 13 January 2012)
+1.82m WW in 2011
Nintendogamer (on 06 January 2012)
This is rouhgly 1.1M Under tracked! http://www.computerandvideogames.com/330938/nintendo-clears-4-million-3ds-units-sold-in-us/
atma998 (on 01 January 2012)
fedfed (on 06 November 2011)
26m? wow it may actually do 28m before the end...
Nintendogamer (on 15 September 2011)
26.25M by years end.
Fededx (on 06 September 2011)
At full price, almost 26 millons, and after 272 weeks, and it still manages to sell over 20k globally per week. Mario and Luigi have their legs in real good shape after all these years of jumping and running!
mysticwolf (on 13 June 2011)
how is this game still at full price? that's crazy
cromeros (on 16 May 2011)
+ 25 millions... OMG!!!.... Mario Rules!!!
ljlrj (on 15 February 2011)
it funny how it first ten weeks is only a mill and now it over 20mill
Nintendogamer (on 27 January 2011)
I think this game is a tad undertracked, Nintendo said they shipped 26.21m end of 201, shall we see a upward adjustment of about 700K?
dsage01 (on 25 January 2011)
i remember how much fun i had with this game this can do maybe 30 million lifetime!
Aidman (on 21 January 2011)
25 Millions Hello !
atma998 (on 03 January 2011)
It seems the Wii version of this game gave a nice boost to its DS counterpart.
supermariouniverse (on 21 December 2010)
Top Selling DS game. About time!
DrZoidberg (on 21 December 2010)
just broke 24 million, most likely will drop off (although maybe not completely) once the 3DS is released, but how far will it get in the mean time
kopstudent89 (on 07 December 2010)
Just insane. 23 million and far from done selling. This will hit 25 million early 2011.. just brilliant!
supermariouniverse (on 03 December 2010)
only .5 million away from nintendogs!
andremop (on 09 May 2010)
6 million! This officially makes NSMB the 4th best selling game ever in japan, with real possibilities to be the 3rd in a short time, leaving only the first and second pokemon games above it. Simply phenomenal!
axumblade (on 23 April 2010)
I have a feeling that by the end of the year, this game will be ahead of Nintendogs (finally).
morenoingrato (on 25 March 2010)
just 50k more for the 6mil...
atma998 (on 05 March 2010)
This 4 years old game is still apearing in the top 20 week after week. Incredible! It must be the non-bundled game with the best leg of all time! I mean wow the game is still selling over 50k/week FOUR YEARS after its release!! A feat that even some great AAA titles are not able to do only 4-5 weeks after their releases...
leo-j (on 07 February 2010)
I bought it, its a good game and all.. but I honestly am sad this game has eclipsed many great gaming experiences that make this look like a mediocore experience.. its really sad..
xwolf7 (on 19 January 2010)
Great sales for a great game!!
Aidman (on 16 January 2010)
21 Millions congractulations there are many congratz in here
Tayne (on 04 January 2010)
It must feel great to be king. Good job Nintendo.
Buzzi (on 24 December 2009)
It's amazing, a 3 year old game that it's selling like this!
Heavenly_King (on 18 December 2009)
LOL!!! OMG!! 20M?!?!?! WTF!!?!?!
IxisNaugus (on 13 December 2009)
Did it really just do 20 million? Wow...
I like Bacon (on 12 December 2009)
I hope it reaches 25 million. and I hope the Wii version outsells this one.
SmokedHostage (on 12 December 2009)
So close to 20 million.
Majin-Tenshinhan (on 12 December 2009)
20 million :) Nice.
Nintendogamer (on 08 December 2009)
New super mario bros wii should do over 20 million eventually too.
zarx (on 08 December 2009)
god damn 20mill next week nintendo is the best at what they do.
axumblade (on 06 December 2009)
20 million next week and it won't stop there! I can't wait to see just how high this game can go! :)
kopstudent89 (on 06 December 2009)
will hit 20mil next week. 21 million is a possible target! unbelievable
guiduc (on 30 November 2009)
This is Mario's true power...
Nothing can beat my favourite plumber.
TheConduit (on 21 October 2009)
Pre-orders in America have already surpassed the initial sales of this game by 110000 with 5 weeks left and that doesn't include people buying the game upon release without pre-orders.
TheConduit (on 21 October 2009)
@Rolfinator: Upon seeing the game in more detail the game includes significant detail and polish putting far ahead of the DS counterpart and other Wii games.
Looks like this game is gonna set records for Wii openings
Roflinator (on 19 October 2009)
@TheConduit: Looks too weak visually? What?
Pineapple (on 12 October 2009)
Could possibly? There's no doubt it will! It should crack open 21 million as well.
jefforange89 (on 09 October 2009)
Could possibly hit 20 million before years end. :o
Paul (on 26 September 2009)
I wonder if it will see a sales boost once the wii NSMB is released. it should have another hure christmas.
Kenka (on 22 September 2009)
It will actually rank second in the series, only losing to the original game, by the end of the year. Incredible achievement.
Kenka (on 16 September 2009)
20 M, here we come.
TheConduit (on 05 September 2009)
The Wii version will not sell as well as this because the Wii version looks to weak visually
PowerOn (on 14 August 2009)
Just less a million unit to go...
Alex_The_Hedgehog (on 09 August 2009)
hunter_alien (on 07 August 2009)
Deserves every sale :-D Il probably end up buying a DSi later on just as I did with the first and Lite... then I will buy a second copy :-P Best DS game IMO :-)
xbebop (on 06 August 2009)
It just won't stop selling.
Thechalkblock (on 29 July 2009)
No wonder Nintendo decided to make New Super Mario Bros Wii. A no-brainer really.
TheConduit (on 22 July 2009)
By the time the Wii version of this game gets released the sales of the Wii should be the same as DS when this game launched
Wonder which will ultimately fare better
Majin-Tenshinhan (on 19 July 2009)
The sales of this are just unnatural.
axumblade (on 18 July 2009)
@gearbox. it's definitely not just a remake. It's "New Super Mario Bros" because it's a 2D game (like the other SMB games).
Gearbox (on 17 July 2009)
@ zucas - isnt this just a remake tho? if so, no it doesnt deserve so many sales, nintendo should make a new game not a remake
Zucas (on 12 July 2009)
Wow been awhile since I checked the sales on this. 19 million units sold. That is just incredible. All the controversy about sales and bundled well here ya go. A game that is going to go over 20 million which has only been bundle for specials on some sort of holiday. Truly an amazing game and deserves every sale.
gandenkris (on 11 July 2009)
Ds games are much cheaper than Wii games and there just so easy to carry around. NSMBW will sell in the 3 million - 10 million range but I'm saying about 7 million but it's obvious that it's going to be advertised a ton and there's already a bunch of people who know what NSMB is so it could be a 10 million or more seller.
SJGohan3972 (on 30 June 2009)
Passed Super Mario Land - now the 3rd highest selling Mario game ever - when will it pass Super Mario World? I expect NSMBWii to give this a boost - and can MKWii catch up and pass?
jefforange89 (on 28 June 2009)
I wonder if this game will ever stop selling.
volrath50 (on 26 June 2009)
Wii version may repeat the success of the DS one (over time, not in the first month) or it may not. It's hard to predict a game like that, as there's not much to go on for new, big name 2D platformers in this age of 3D.
ash3336 (on 15 June 2009)
But the Wii version will sell atleast 5-6 M.
fukudalakasone (on 13 June 2009)
The Wii version won't even get close to replicating the success of its DS counterpart...
axumblade (on 05 June 2009)
@Majin...it's the highest selling Mario game without constant bundling.
intro94 (on 03 June 2009)
good lord, the sales are unbelivable!!!!the game isnt even that old!
Majin-Tenshinhan (on 10 May 2009)
@ Onna76, it's actually beaten by Super Mario World and the original Super Mario Bros.
Pretty sure both of those were heavily bundled, though.
W4n9Le (on 29 April 2009)
chinese are great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*~Onna76~* (on 08 April 2009)
If only illegal copied games weren't sold this game could have easily hit the 20 million. I hate those Chinese.
*~Onna76~* (on 08 April 2009)
Wow, like best selling Mario ever? Its also the best Mario game on any handheld that's for sure.
st_muscat0 (on 04 April 2009)
Gearbox it's a totally new game. Also 6.66 million sold in America, lol.
Gearbox (on 04 April 2009)
is this a re make of one of the orignal super mario games with updated graphics, or is it something new?
oliist (on 20 March 2009)
There are NOT five different versions of Nintendogs, more like five different covers and starting breeds.
So ONE game outsold the other one by nearly 4 million copies.
fukudalakasone (on 20 March 2009)
The amount of sales this game has gotten is simply astonishing.
5 versions for Nintendogs, one for NSMB and its only 4mil off! (At time of posting).
TheConduit (on 11 March 2009)
To many games are bundeled to use that excuse.
PowerOn (on 11 March 2009)
It beat Super Mario Bro 3!
tryffel8 (on 05 March 2009)
Is this game still bundeld in the US? If so, i thinks thats a bit sad bicause its its more iontresting to see what it can do on its own in the charts
SmokedHostage (on 03 March 2009)
18.00 million again :)
Phoenix_Wiight (on 22 February 2009)
lol, that usually happens when numbers first update.
SmokedHostage (on 22 February 2009)
wait.. adjusted from ~11.9 to 17.95 again.
I got nervous.
SmokedHostage (on 22 February 2009)
Adjusted WAAAAYYYYYY Down.
SmokedHostage (on 18 February 2009)
A fusion of SMB,SM64, SMB3, SMW and a tad of SMS. How anyone can hate this game is BEYOND me.
Simulacrum (on 12 February 2009)
I don't know why but this game didin't hit me...I played it trough tho with happy face.
Valkyria00 (on 08 February 2009)
Good game. A bit frustrating at parts. I beat it in...1 1/2 days. Still ive gotta go back and get more stars....until I get.....a special card.
jmcraddock (on 03 February 2009)
this game is waaaaaaay over hyped. Its basically the same as my GBA version of super mario bros.
6.5/10 seems like nintendos just making money of ripped off games
Araknie87 (on 27 January 2009)
And even this week it's sold out. XD
It it's going like this i don't know where might be going.
Lolcislaw (on 18 January 2009)
I just bought it :) Awesome
SmokedHostage (on 09 January 2009)
Outsold Super Mario Land.
FreeTalkLive (on 09 January 2009)
This game sells for $35 in America. Even though there are millions of used copies out there the demand is still so high I had to pay $24 for it used. Anyway, I see why it is so popular, I love it. I wonder when it will stop selling, 25 million, maybe...
Kenka (on 07 January 2009)
This thing just beat Halo 2 sales in Americas... crazy.
bigjon (on 04 January 2009)
there is no reason for people to discredit this games sales on a bundle... The bundle cost a good bit more that regular price, if anything we could look at it as it is on sale in a lot of places for 19.99.
TheConduit (on 04 January 2009)
Soon it will top Pokemon as the num1
kopstudent89 (on 03 January 2009)
You know there is a reason it was bundled... people loooove this game!
TheConduit (on 02 January 2009)
Now it need only pass Pokemon red green blue. For best selling game that wasnt a pack in
nordlead (on 31 December 2008)
The game was bundled in the US, from November 28th. I think you can still get the bundle, but who knows how long it will stay on the shelves.
Omega_Phazon_Pirate. (on 31 December 2008)
Now, will it beat 20 million?
cody6695 (on 31 December 2008)
wow, three years later and still sold 500K this month...I personally was very dissapinted with this game but looks like the world likes it!
TheConduit (on 30 December 2008)
Mario is truly a pure game witch allows for it to consistently rise to the top of the gaming world.
Nintendo will always be considered by me to be the greatest gaming company of all time.
DanielD (on 29 December 2008)
Selling so much, I think a sequel may come.
GianCarmen (on 28 December 2008)
Almost three years later and it is still selling. Wow. I cant wait for the second one, if it ever comes out.
Zucas (on 27 December 2008)
Topped GTA: SA to be the second best selling game of all time.
bigjon (on 26 December 2008)
I crown this game the king of legs (well besides Wiifit, Nintendogs, MK Wii, and a few others)
Amazing it has sold 6 mil in NA and Others but opened under 200k...
Khuutra (on 26 December 2008)
Should be in the top ten by the end of the year, give or take a week.
pokemonfan_2611 (on 25 December 2008)
this game is amazing, its my second favorite game, the first is pokemon DP. i have 53 ds games and i play it a lot
Oyvoyvoyv (on 14 December 2008)
Should be in the top 10 best selling games EVER by the end of the generation. Only real contestants to push it out is MKWii and Wii Sports Resort.
c0rd (on 14 December 2008)
This game has the catchiest, best theme song ever.
Majin-Tenshinhan (on 12 December 2008)
Good lord, this game is never going to stop selling, is it? This is insane...
TopCat8 (on 07 December 2008)
I love how evenly this game sells in every region. That makes it truly universal.
arsenal009 (on 05 December 2008)
I wonder if it would have passed pokes if platinum never came out.
supermariouniverse (on 04 December 2008)
Wow, it finally passed Pokemon Diamond/Pear! This game has epic legs....
Khuutra (on 04 December 2008)
Aw dang, coming up fast on 17 million.
Could it pass 20 million in 2009? Maybe!
c0rd (on 03 December 2008)
Actually, considering how America's DS userbase is similar to Japan's and smaller than Others, Mario is doing fine. The games' attach ratio is close enough, and the sales are rising faster in America.
If you take a look at SMG's attach rates, it looks like America is his strongest region, if anything.
bigjon (on 03 December 2008)
pretty much even in all 3 territories...
novasonic (on 28 November 2008)
i swore to myself i WOULD get all 240 star coins! and then i did. Great story i know
cdemakis23 (on 20 November 2008)
the reason why the original super mario sold 29.5 million is b/c most those games were bundled
SmokedHostage (on 05 November 2008)
One thing I noticed. It sold/is selling less in America than Europe and Japan yet the first Super Mario Bros. sold ~29.5 million in America. Mario may still be pretty big but not so much in America. :\ Also Europe and Japan are about the same which is shocking imo.
SmokedHostage (on 05 November 2008)
16.01 million.. Gotta love legs.
Khuutra (on 04 November 2008)
How long before it passes up Super Mario Bros. 3, I wonder...
spidey_77 (on 17 October 2008)
YEA. PS3 finally passes it. Yea SONY FTW!!!
Hegarol2 (on 14 October 2008)
megamario621 (on 06 October 2008)
this game needs to be adjusted down. It only sold 5,281,886 in japan
SSSBOLIMAR (on 18 September 2008)
holy cow! thats alot of sales
regin2005 (on 06 September 2008)
15.5 Million....DAMN!!! Soon Wii games will look like this!!
silverlunar777 (on 03 September 2008)
This game won't stop selling! :O
HanzoTheRazor (on 28 August 2008)
9/10 Great new Mario game!
SmokedHostage (on 22 July 2008)
In a month's time, this game will pass Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
Explosivo (on 18 July 2008)
Yay for 15 million!
--OkeyDokey-- (on 06 July 2008)
I can't beat the last stage :3
I hate thwomps.
MontanaHatchet (on 04 July 2008)
Lol, Zenfoldor is still trying to justify Brawl's poor PAL launch. And he can't even spell disappointing correctly! Oh, what a day, what a day.
supermariouniverse (on 04 July 2008)
This game is slowly catching up to Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.....
ZenfoldorVGI (on 02 July 2008)
lol, it launched to 133,908k in others, but people said that the 400k Brawl sales first week were "dissapointing."
SmokedHostage (on 30 June 2008)
I love this game, It deserves all the acclaim it gets. Also for a game called New Super Mario Bros., there's little new about it.
*bleu-ocelot* (on 30 June 2008)
Nintendo printing money as usual.
Zucas (on 17 June 2008)
Almost to 15 million. This game's legs are incredible. GTA:SA and SMB3 watch out haha.
MANUELF (on 05 June 2008)
PhatLaosBoi (on 03 June 2008)
I hope Nintendo decides to release a New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Super Mario Bros sales no one can compete lol
dawve24 (on 26 May 2008)
A great game now give me more 2d mario.
kopstudent89 (on 09 May 2008)
Freak Sales!! Wont stop selling in EU!
trestres (on 26 April 2008)
Wow Japanese do love this game.
tokilamockingbrd (on 22 April 2008)
14 million... 15 million here we come(in like 15-18 weeks)
supermariouniverse (on 17 April 2008)
Wow! This game reached 14 million and still going strong!
senseinobaka (on 17 April 2008)
NSMB sequel on Wii is the greatest Idea i've ever heard.
MANUELF (on 15 April 2008)
Anyone love a Mario 2D, please Nintendo make a Mario 2D for Wii.
MontanaHatchet (on 10 April 2008)
That means that NSMB has sold an average of 140k a week.
That's really freakin' impressive.
TheSwordUser (on 09 April 2008)
Funny...next week will be 100th NSMB week and it will hit 14 million. Impressive.
Levi (on 09 April 2008)
Man the game has some legs thats for sure.
bigjon (on 07 April 2008)
14 million next week.
bigjon (on 04 April 2008)
looks like others and NA will catch Japan someday... but by then total sales might be around 16 million.
Diglet (on 03 April 2008)
wow 90k this week ww :D
Zucas (on 27 March 2008)
This has definetly got to be one of the most consistent selling titles across regions. Just like Mario Kart. Mario and Pokemon might be the only franchises that can do that.
MANUELF (on 26 March 2008)
Very good game, my third favorite DS game behind JUS and Pokemon pearl.
sep85dd (on 24 March 2008)
I like it, very good! 10/10
I like Bacon (on 26 February 2008)
^Yes it was! *slaps you*
Riot Of The Blood (on 24 February 2008)
This was not a good game at all.
Punisher (on 23 February 2008)
Best 2D-Mario that there is out now (not including Paper Mario, it's 2,5D)
Strategyking92 (on 20 February 2008)
mario 64 DS is sooo much better.
Joeron (on 31 January 2008)
@Bigjon, I bet this game will be part of a 3quel. Just like the original Mario Bros series.
bigjon (on 26 January 2008)
wow.. just past 13 million... Any guesses as to where it will stop? I am gonna say between 16-18 million... Nintendo has to be kicking themselves for not making a 2d mario sooner.
leo-j (on 19 January 2008)
Although not the best handheld game ever,it is the best ds game other than mario kart.
Machina (on 12 January 2008)
Excellent game, shame it's not longer.
hunter_alien (on 06 January 2008)
I just bought the game ... and I have to say , loooong time since a sidescrooler impressed me , but the underwater levels are just beautifull :D At first it doesnt seems much , but afther playing it for a couple of hours it hooks you , and lets you go extremly hard ...
tokilamockingbrd (on 02 January 2008)
this game could make nintendo own the top 11 all time, I see no reason why this games legs will not carry it past the sims in a good while, it stands at 12.46 now.
Duke Of Darkness (on 29 December 2007)
This game is my favorite DS game it is easy but it is fun.
Faxanadu (on 11 December 2007)
@Onna: now what is it? cut or cute? or did the yellow box change a bit together with your name?
+ -- •• (on 10 December 2007)
Great game. Now we need the sequel.
MontanaHatchet (on 02 December 2007)
The only real flaw with this game is that it's too easy like many DS games.
Lord_ash (on 26 November 2007)
The Best Mario Game since Super Mario 3, no offence to Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy both are amazing games, but Mario in 2D is unbeatable.
decels (on 21 November 2007)
I wouldn't say this is Mario for idiots... It's Mario for casual gamers. In my opinion the game was very easy, but some of the coins really had me frustrated and required some skill... I tried to let my father try it (he has no skill whatsoever in video games) and still considering the difficulty level fairly easy, he could pass the first level really slowly, and couldn't get the jumping right, and by the time he got to level 1-2 he had to quit because it was just too complicated... I could imagine a casual gamer to actually find some of the levels challenging (but by no means hard) and considering the take Nintendo is taking by having more casual games, I must say that it is a really fun game! If you want to play an old mario just download the original from the Virtual Console because we will probably never get one like that ever again.
RAcCoOnErOuS (on 17 November 2007)
I owned this game for Months but i haven't beat it yet..
Played the minie games alot
My high score for Wack o mole is 92 can anyone beat that??
acidzebra (on 12 November 2007)
huge letdown. This game is Mario for idiots. No skill needed. You could probably play this with your eyes closed and still finish levels. It looks purty, and the giant mushroom is fun once or twice, but all in all, a disappointment.

Amazing game... Great mix of the old and new, brings back many memories... Have awesome power ups, the wall jumps and many secrets!

Love this game... and its just one of those games that doesn't get boring after the third time you've beaten it.

Easily the best DS game, and possibly the best handheld game - ever. Absolute must-buy for DS owners.
