Microsoft: X360 Shipments Reach 66m, Kinect More Than 18m Globally - News

I find it extremely disturbing that VGC has changed what Microsoft said in Keynote speech.
Steve Ballmer said the following.

360 was the world sales leader for 2011.

360 has now OVER 66 million USERS. Yes this is exact words.

And finally 'KINECT' had shipped 18 million units.

He did not use the shipped for 360 numbers.

Also he said OVER 66 million.

18m??? Wow.... 3 of my friends picked up a kinect this christmas. I guess they contributed. Lol.

Incredibly 360 numbers. It far exceeded what I thought it could do this year.

They didn't say "shipped", they said "SOLD"...big difference. Time to stop under-tracking the X360 sales VGC.

@Selnor. I believe Msoft said they sold the most in 2010 as well. VGC says otherwise. USERS likely refers to Xbox Live accounts that are active, which wouldn't be surprising if there were MILLIONS more than actual 360s in consumers hands. Let's just wait and see what Nintendo and Sony say about themselves for the year.

Lets see if Sony call them out. Very impressive numbers for both the 360 and Kinect and no announcemnt of a new Xbox so we have more sales to come.

My suspicion is by removing themselves from the CES rat race though allows them to announce things whenever. That might make the guessing game a little tougher.

MS didn't say 66m shipped. There are over 66million xbox units sold. Vgchartz is drastically undertracking the 360 it seems.

Well...Sony is not opposing the "Best selling console of 2011" claim.. So MS really did win?

X360 with Kinect has really replaced Wii as casual console in US. Pretty impressive. December numbers for X360 in US must be huge considering how US/UK heavy the sales of X360 HW usually are and other PAL charts really hasnb't shown the surge of X360 games (we all know how X360 sells in Asia)

So 360 was the best selling hardware worldwide in 2011? Who do we trust, MS or VGC now?

But no console has ever surpassed 100%. In terms of users. So it MUST be sold.

got a new Xbox (gears 3 limited) and a kinnect... and this counts as I gave my old 360 to someone who didn't have one.

I have seen other sites quoting the 66million figure as "66 million users world wide". Even at 66 millions shiped, the sold through figure on VChartz seems on the low side in light of this. the 15.5 millions sold through on VGchartz vs 18 millions shipped Kinect also seem quite low. Modern inventory control systems at retails are so finely tuned that it's difficult to imagine there 3.5 millions overstocked Kinnects sitting in stores.

Amazing how holiday-heavy Kinect has been.

i was off by 2 million when i said watch MS say kinect sold 20 million. i think people are forgetting kinect is still selling. they could be adding numbers up to the morning of ces

Anyway I don't believe they were #1 worldwide. Wouldn't they have made a big deal about it by now? Seems to me like they just said that because they know Sony won't provide their numbers.

There is MUCH focus on x-box on here. It's leading still on the PS3. But I wonder if the sales on the front page is updated because if this link is right then the sales of PS3 in the Christmas period might not have been included on the total sales on the front page on this site. Hmm I wonder if this site are a little slow and not so true to the Playstation brand when it comes to consoles sold. x-box are always strange with there numbers and they aren't saying how much games they sell etc. Well we just have to wait and see what happens but the PS3 was 3 and less mill behind the x-box but now more than 4 mill behind and I find this hard to believe.

Considering that the 3DS its almost at 15m, the numbers of Kinect arent that impressive, or at least, they show how heavily christmas driven its sales are.
