EDD Profits $352m as Microsoft Ships 2.3m X360s in Q3 11' - News

Microsoft's earnings data for the September 2011 quarter has arrived. Since Microsoft's fiscal year ends in June, there is only quarterly data. Future corporate reports will generally include half year figures for April to September 2011.
For the quarter, Microsoft revenue reached $17.37b with profit of $5.74b. Those figures compare to $16.20b in revenue and $5.41b in profit during the September 2010 quarter.
In the Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD) which contains the X360, among other devices such as Zune, Microsoft revenues reached $1.963b for the September 2011 quarter with profits coming to $352m. During the September 2010 quarter, Microsoft's EDD business had revenue $1.795b with profit of $386m.
During the September 2011 quarter, Microsoft shipped 2.3m X360s, stating 'Xbox was the top selling console in the USA for the past nine-months' and that Gears of War 3 sold through 3m units globally week one in September. As of the June update, 55.3m X360s were shipped globally, bringing the lifetime total to 57.6m units globally. In the previous September quarter, Microsoft shipped a bit over 2.8m X360s.
Prior to the October 2010 to September 2011 period when Microsoft shipped 13m systems, Microsoft's all-time peak for video game hardware shipments reached 13.7m, and so the new 12-month figure is still down only slightly from the best 12-month period ever for X360.
Microsoft also did not provide an update on the performance of Kinect globally. As of September 2011, we have not heard new Kinect shipment information from Microsoft since April when Microsoft reported its March quarter results.

Hmm, yet another quarter without an update to Kinect's shipment numbers. One can only guess it must not have seen much growth. Still, good shipment numbers for the 360. Still behind last year's numbers, but that also saw the release of Halo: Reach, so it's understandable.
2.3 million doesn't sound that much? What was it predicted to be?
It may be down on this time last year, but given the age of the 360, 2.3m still seems an impressive figure. Historically, a lot of consoles (especially non market leaders) are all but dead by this stage.

Imagine how profitable EDD would be without Windows Phone 7 dragging it down! Xbox 360 must be making bank on huge profits!
EDD also includes Office for Mac which brings huge profits. Yes, MS Office is biggest application suite on Mac, nothing else comes even close.
No shippment? Bad.
Shipments are 1.2mil above sell through, so its undertracked.
That's perfectly normal this time of year.

and yet it still has a higher software attach ratio than the ps3. Do people buy the ps3 to just stare at it then?
