Sega-Sammy Profits $513.6m in March 2011 Year - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 13 May 2011 / 6,834 ViewsSega-Sammy's results for the March 2011 year have just arrived. Results were mixed. Previously Sega-Sammy had forecast revenues of 410b Yen ($5.07b) for the fiscal year, but the actual total came to 396.7b Yen ($4.91m). On the other hand, Sega had forecast profit of 37.5b Yen ($464m) and actual profit came to 41.5b Yen ($513.6m). In the prior fiscal year, Sega-Sammy had revenues of 384.6b Yen ($4.76b) with profits of 20.2b Yen ($250m), which means that while revenue barely grew in the year to March 2011 from the prior year, profit more than doubled which is never a bad result. Sammy's Pachislot & Panchinko business was the contributor to the revenue and profit growth though, as Sega's video game business declined by over 25% on a revenue basis compared to the prior fiscal year.
For the March 2012 fiscal year, Sega-Sammy revenue is forecast to reach 450b Yen ($5.57b), up 13% from the March 2011 year. Profit is expected to decline 21% to 33b Yen however ($408.4m).
Sega says it shipped 18.71m video games during the March 2011 fiscal year - beating its most recent projection of 16m units. Nonetheless, Sega had shipped 26.75m in the prior fiscal year, and the company continues to cite sluggish Western sales for many of its big titles as a limit on its video game business. Sega projects to ship 23.29m games in the March 2012 year though - a 24.5% increase from the March 2011 year.
For the March 2011 year, Sega lists the following games as its major titles:
Sonic Colors (Wii, DS) - 2.18m
Iron Man 2 (PS3, X360, Wii, PSP, DS) - 1.54m
Vanquish (X360, PS3) - 830,000
Shogun 2: Total War (PC) - 600,000
Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity (PSP) - 370,000
Sega Play! Baseball, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (iOS - no mention of PSN, XBLA, or WW), Yakuza Mobile, and Kingdom Conquest, which use various business models for revenue generation, also performed well for Sega on social and mobile platforms.
Sega's 18.71m games shipped during the March 2011 year were heavily in favor of catalogue titles (8.34m). PSP (2.03m), X360 (1.78m), PC (1.62m), Wii (1.60m), DS (1.59m), PS3 (1.35m), and 3DS (0.36m) software shipmens were decent as well though.
For the March 2012 year, Sega projects to ship 4.95m catalogue games, 4.62m PS3 games, 4.15m 3DS games, 3.60m Wii games, 3.08m X360 games, 1.14m PC games, 1.08m PSP games, and 610,000 DS games to reach its 23.29m projection. Sega-Sammy expects the new Mario & Sonic game to perform well for Wii and 3DS, which is why both systems are forecast well above the levels seen in the March 2011 year. Sonic, in the form of Sonic Generations is likely the reason for the projected X360 and PS3 lift as well.
Sega expects to ship 10.68m games to Europe, 9.24m games to North America, and 3.36m games to Japan and the rest of the world in the March 2012 year to meets its target.

Glad to know they've been doing fine. With those profits they could get back into console wars kek.
I expect Sonic Generations to perform extremely well for both X360 and PS3. We'll see though. Good luck to SEGA.
Aww yeah! SEGA's stylin now! New console shouldn't be too far off.
just bought Vanquish
Go Sega! Happy to see that Colors did well too. ^_^
Looking at it again , Sega has profited more that Activision for the fiscal year.
WOW! It would be very sweet if they decided to make a console again, but why, when they are making a lot of profit already?
Good job Sega
I wish Yakuza 4 had made it on this list, it's Sega's best recent game imho.
Well at least someone finally profited
I sent them a $1000 tip for publishing the awesomeness that is Vanquish. I'm sure 829,999 other people did the same.
we don't have the details of the sega division revenues then ^^ But in all it sounds pretty good with no major blockbuster.
Nice, make more profit and work on Dreamcast 2! :)
think** ...
" but the actual total came to 396.7b Yen ($4.91m) " , I thing you mean $4.91b , anyways I believe Sega has the second best result for the fiscal year just after Activision which is amazing for a company without a huge franchise like COD , they run a good business , EA got a lot to learn .
