Microsoft Ships 2.7m million X360s in the March 11' Quarter - News

Microsoft has just announced its quarterly earnings results. Company wide, Microsoft revenues were $16.43b in the March 2011 quarter up 13% from the previous March quarter. Profits reached $5.23b over the same time frame, up 31% from the March 2010 quarter. In the Entertainment & Devices Division of Microsoft which includes the Xbox brand, the company had revenues of $1.935b and a profit of $225m. Profit increased by $75m in the Entertainment division from the previous March quarter, with revenue up from $1.210b. Microsoft's Entertainment division, which includes Zune and other devices besides the X360, has generated revenues of $7.428b over the first nine months of Microsoft's June 2011 fiscal year and profits of $1.292b in that time frame.
As of December 2010, Microsoft had shipped 50.8m X360s. With an additional 2.7m devices shipped in the March 2011 quarter, a record for a March quarter for Microsoft, total X360 shipemts reached 53.5m through March 2011. Of that total, 13.3m systems were shipped in the last year, an all time record for Microsoft since entering the video game business. Microsoft does not provide software shipment figures, but the company did say that Kinect shipments reached 2.4m units in the March 2011 quarter (see slide 13). Given that Microsoft had shipped 8m Kinects through the end of 2010, and 10m by early March, it looks like Kinect shipped 400,000 units over the last four weeks of March.

@usrevenge: this article is about sales and profit, not about what console you prefer, so your argument is irrelevant. And from a quality stand point mario galaxy is better than call of duty. When call of duty game gets a 10, and a metacritic average of 97, lets talk about call of duty being better than mario. By your lógic pacman is better than call of duty because you can play it forever.
@TheWon: Profits and revenue were of the whole company, not just gaming division. MS gets most of their profits and revenue from Windows and Office. Gaming division is tiny compared to them. Ans as a company Nintendo is nowhere near as big as MS.

TheWon, no one cares about how many little kids play that wii, yea it sold millions more, but it still blows because there is virtually no online, or worthwhile multiplayer games. the few games that are good at exclusives that people can do without, example mario galaxy is cool, but gears is better, cod is better ect.

If I remember correctly The Wii out sold the 360 and PS3 in 2010. We now the 360 doesn't even exist in Japan. So it's no way possible they made more money then Nintendo. Nintendo made games sold more the Micrsoft. Nintendo has sold more hardware last year world wide, and let's not forget the DS. If you go March to March the the 360 still just barely outsold the Wii in the US. That still leads Japan, and Europe Which last I check even the PS3 is doing better than the 360 there.
I suppose more importantly than Zune, how much of an impact does Windows Phone have on the EDS results?
@stealth20k Nice to see someone defending the Wii, but let's be real here - Wii has collapsed as of 2011, not before. It sold half of what 360 did in this last quarter and is prolly gonna sell well below 360 until the holidays unless Nintendo intervenes.
the wii is still outselling it worldide by a fair margin........ the wii shipped more than that 15.08 million Wiis in the last fiscal year. The 360 didnt do that.
