Top Ten Shameless Game Console Knock-offs - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 27 March 2011 / 32,735 Views

There appears to be a fairly large market for videogame console knock-offs. These gray-market consoles are especially prevalent in countries such as China and parts of South America where piracy and lack of distribution centers for legitimate consoles has led companies to try to make a quick buck. Personally, I have seen hundreds of these things in malls across America, containing games such as Super Mari Brothers, an amazingly well done cover-up for a real game I bet nobody could figure out the name of. Some of these could easily be mistaken for their real-life counterparts, but others are hilariously terrible. Here they are, the top ten most shameless game console knock-offs.

Name: Delightfully Small (DS) Gaming Entertainment System

Real Console: Nintendo DS in name and GBA Micro in appearance

Notes: Can emulate from the NES, SNES, Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, SNK Neo-Geo and Capcom’s arcade platforms, CPS1 and CPS2. It also can be used for music, videos, images, and even an e-reader with text to speech technology. Probably the best thing on this list in terms of usability.

Name: Game Theory Admiral

Real Console: Game Boy Advance

Notes: Acts as a tiny TV and plays Famicom games through flimsy conversion cartridges. It also uses controllers if one wants to plug them in.

Name: Kontorland KT-103

Real Console: NES

Notes: The box for this Turkish masterpiece says "THE BEST VIDEO GAME SYSTEM" and has Sonic the Hedgehog plastered all over it. Otherwise it's basically an NES with a PlayStation controller.

Name: PXP - 2000

Real Console: PSP GO

Notes: Emulation Support, TV out, SD card slot.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-03-27/knock-off-game-consoles/knock-off-game-consoles_1301266007.jpg

Name: Mini Polystation 3

Real Console: PlayStation 3

Notes: That thing that looks like a disk tray is actually a tiny screen that plays sub-NES games much like those Tiger Electronics handhelds 20 years ago.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-03-27/knock-off-game-consoles/knock-off-game-consoles_1301266944.jpg

Name: Latest Video Game

Real Console: N/A

Notes: claims to contain a "999999999999 in 1 game cartridge"! Seems to be an 8-bit NES clone.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-03-27/knock-off-game-consoles/knock-off-game-consoles_1301267177.jpg

Name: Super MegaSon IV

Real Console: Sony PlayStation

Notes: Contains pre-loaded clones of NES games with names like "Excite Bike 35235" and "Javeling Throw 403".  The Megason series is the most prolific of all bootleg consoles.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-03-27/knock-off-game-consoles/knock-off-game-consoles_1301267661.jpg

Name: Neo Double Games

Real Console: Nintendo DS

Notes: Plays unplayable games that are similar to games from Tiger Electronics 20 years ago, one called Soccer, the other called Street Fighter - despite looking almost exactly like Soccer. There is also a Neo Double Games Lite on the market.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-03-27/knock-off-game-consoles/knock-off-game-consoles_1301267917.jpg

Name: WiNi Game Sports

Real Console: Nintendo Wii

Notes: Name sounds like a euphemism for penis; probably terrible.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/galleries/2011-03-27/knock-off-game-consoles/knock-off-game-consoles_1301268378.jpg

Name: PCP Station

Real Console: PSP

Notes: I wonder how many junkies picked this up thinking they would get a cheap fix?

kinect and move aren't video game consoles

halil - ok, take the fanboy glasses off man. If you cant visually see the similarities between Move and Wii remote, grab a black wii remote, maybe its the color confusing you? Kinect took a bigger leap with their systems. Move is a rip-off of the Wii remote, there's no way around it.

OMG. I couldn't stop laughing. (wipe tears from eyes). That was hilarious. What's funny is the Super Megason IV has a note on the box that says, "with extra cartridge",. If this is a PS1 close, there are no cartridges, just CD's. The Delightfully Small (DS) Gaming Entertainment System is probably the best thing available as it emulates all those systems and if it supports a 32GB or 64GB SD Card, you can download a LOT of those games to it for play. Everything else is pretty much crap. People are stupid enough to buy this stuff because it's cheaper and they think it'll play the really Nintendo & Sony hardware games.

They all emulate games, why don't hacker buys them??? They prefer to use a legal system to use illegal content? Use a illegal console directly...

The DS (first) and the PSP go clones look pretty.

I see that you get your last pic from Dr Ashens... at least put a link to his videos

  • 0
kingofbubba (on 27 March 2011)

Haha, great caption for the PCP! @ OP: can you edit and put up the country of origin for the systems? And this isn't really a criticism, because it was fun to see all these, but I thought the Vii was a pretty popular/well-known knock off. I've actually seen one at somebodies place but I never asked to try it. I probably missed a good laugh. :-( Oh, and the Delightfully Small sounds good enough that it's gonna encourage some people to go out and get it...but it sounds like playing "their" games is pirating :-P

dsister (on 27 March 2011)
