Sony Launches "Playstation Rewards," a New Loyalty Program - News
by Gabriel Franco , posted on 27 October 2010 / 4,347 ViewsSony today unveiled its new loyalty program, PlayStation Rewards, designed to give PlayStation fans the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition, and rewards based on a variety of PlayStation-centric activities. PlayStation Rewards will be free.
PlayStation Rewards will begin as an invitation-only beta, including early adopters of PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel (GAP) members. The full public launch is scheduled for Spring 2011, when registered PlayStation Network fans will be able to join the free loyalty program. During the beta phase, the program will start out focusing on the PS3, but Playstation plans to add in the Playstation Portable down the line.
Susan Panico, senior director of the PlayStation Network, described the service:
There are three reward tiers for PlayStation Reward members to attain, consisting of "Select," "Pro," and "Legendary," in increasing order. Members advance through each tier based on their level of engagement and actions across the PlayStation ecosystem, including playing new games for the first time, buying content from PlayStation Network, downloading movies and TV shows, or engaging in communication with PlayStation like taking surveys, for example. As their status increases, so do the rewards. Members can go to their profile page and look at the reward progress meter to find their current status level and see how close they are to reaching the next level."
Everyone who participates in PlayStation Rewards has the opportunity to earn exclusive rewards that include things like:
- Exclusive PSN avatars that display member status in the program
- Exclusive dynamic themes and PlayStation Home content
- Opportunities throughout the program year to participate in members-only sweepstakes and giveaways for experiences and merchandise you won’t find elsewhere (The first of which is an all expenses paid trip to the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, as PlayStation’s guest)

Did people skip over the "all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas"????
Doesn't sound like a waste to me....
This is good thing ^_^ I'm a playstation fanboy,so I'm always very active with regards to PSN.
Heil Sony.
sounds like the nintendo coins rewards system!
it's only for america or also for europe? i would like it too here in europe !!!
really why do you care? its great for normal players who receive random gifts for playing games, cool what ever oh free holiday i will take that. Basically it a thing for Sony to do to ramp up PSN sales, people will earn more points the more they spend on PSN and buy PS3 games. So in the end Sony wins, the consumers recieve prizes for buying stuff even if they are digital or not.
Hoperly they turn it into an Credit card type rewards program.
you buy stuff on PSN or SCE games and you recieve points
you stock up on points and use them to receive gifts
you can get avatars, themes, maybe a free PSN game depending on points
then they have for much higher points a free psn+ subscription, free games etc.
then on top of that have monthy prizes which people can win. those prizes should be like Tv's and stuff.
Thats what the rewards program should be like.
Jesus guys, look at it like this: if they put in a reward system that involved them giving away too many games, they would lose theoretical money [which isn't a concept that is isolated to Sony alone], and no company wants that.
It's not supposed to be something you focus on. It's almost like the Achievement/Trophy system; It's a prestige program. If you go on PSN, and you see one of your friends as a "Legendary," you'll be like 'Damn!'. In other examples, if they integrate it into future games, and you see someone in the Score Screen as a Legendary on the top of the charts, you'll also be like 'Damn!'.
It's something you just periodically acquire, sort of like the Trophy system. Some people may focus on getting Legendary, again like the Trophy system, but the reward is prestige... Like the - nvm.
ok, you don't get worth things, but it's a good step in the right direction! i own a lot psp, psn and ps3 games! and i'm ps+ too ;)
@novasonic
Exactly.
meh... just some exclusive avatars and designs? lame rewards.
The only thing interesting is the members-only opportunities.
So its like crap with shit on it?
Right i really want this. What a waist of time. now free PSN games then the is a reason for it
So its like Club Nintendo, but with nothing worth getting?
@ils411: I was thinking something like that. Playing a unique game should give you points, bronze, silver, gold, and platinum trophies should all give a unique amount of points, and if they really want, they can add on buying content from psn can give you points or something.
Then for rewards, rather than having a terrible reward system like that, make a relatively small amount of points (amount you can get from getting a decent amount of trophies from 2-3 games for example) allow you to purchase a free avatar or theme or something.
Then, a larger amount of points (perhaps by getting a decent amount of trophies from 15-20 games) can purchase you a $9.99 or less, and $14.99 or less game respectively (15=9.99, 20=14.99). Obviously for those of you who just get every trophy possible, you would be able to get these rewards slightly faster than other people. We are talking about giving away like $10 worth of stuff for every 15 games people play though...I mean, that's nothing. Not to mention it doesn't even cost them $10, as they are making profit on the game, so it is only costing them a portion of that.
As for why they can't do this...I believe I have seen people selling trophy save data before (is this a scam?)
Why do those rewards seem so......stupid? they should integrate the trophy system with this. earn trophies, get points. get enough points get free game from psn or something. now thats a reward. this way gamers are enticed to buy new games and play them.
Since I spend a good deal on the PSN anyway...sign me uP!
Microsoft was going to do also a reward system.
They announced it last year and even made a beta testing,
What the hell happen to that?
Nice, nothing's wrong with free and do what i already do normally which is play my PS3
Sounds like they only reward you for spending money...in that case i'm never seeing a "reward" anytime soon.
@maximus: exactly
I already spend too much money on gaming. I doubt my level of activity would even get me to "Select" status so this is definitely not for me. Good for those really dedicated gamers that already spend a lot of time and money on PS3/PSP/PSN because they'll get some few extras for the money they are throwing Sony's way in addition to the games they buy. For those people it's a win-win.
I hope we get rewards outside the US too... it's not very fair rewarding the market that chose the Xbox :)
Just kidding, hope it's international though
nice
It would be more exciting if the rewards actually looked... i dunno... rewarding?
wow, need to get PSN(plus) soon
