Japan sales are weird as of late, I think they're all high in December!

63K for the PS3 is not bad ,still expected something more .The good thing would be sales not dropping 30-35K once holidays are over .The PS3 has a good selection of games for next year ,it starts in january with Assasins Creed ,Devil May Cry 4 (that will be bundled ) and Disgaea III ,and big games coming in the following months (White Knight ,Metal Gear Solid 4 ,Naruto ,Dragonballz Burst Limit,Lost Planet ,Eternal Sonata ,etc ) and the PS3 will capitalize on those in Japan as X360 is a non-issue there .

The PSP does wonderful numbers ,didnt expect so high .Same with the Wii .
DS climbs to over 200k ,truly wonderful but way less than last year when it made 500K this week .

Biggest discrepancy seems to be in portables, interesting MC gave psp much higher sales and ds much lower and famitsu did the opposite

Wii lifetime sales have now passed those of Gamecube in Japan. Pretty amazing considering it's only been out a year. Given the Japanese love for redesigns it is clear that Wii is going to remain a success in Japan. When sales start slowing down they can introduce new colors, DVD edition not to mention also having a price cut.

hunter_alien (on 21 December 2007)

Wow ... what can I say .... the PSP is doing amazing in hardware department , and lets be honest , nobody was expecting this . It seams that Japanese people really dig redesigns ...

natureman3 (on 21 December 2007)

ho, those figures are excellent news for Sony : 63K for ps3, not that bad. Problem with ps3 is that up to now we have to consider its sales as fragile as we don't know the drop off it will take after holiday rush. Maybe DMC4 will keep it afloat.
Frankly speaking, i truly think Afrika can be a massive massive hit if it's well done and gameplay is interesting and Sony promotes it properly. This is an original and not crowded genre.
PSP : holly fucking s**t on the sales !! it's almost on par with DS !!! in Japan !!! software is abysmal but those are still excellent news. red psp slim did wonders...
DS : the king. wii : the queen.
360 : MS better give up instead of pouring useless money now. after 2 years and the lineup 360 has having those results may be quite depressing. Throw the towel.

famousringo (on 21 December 2007)

Wow, Wii has six of the top ten titles this week.

Rath (on 21 December 2007)

Actually I meant 57k for the PS3. 67 is ridiculously high XD.

i have a feeling that imalwayswrong_tyagi is DjMeisterJ.

Non Sequor (on 20 December 2007)

@DMeisterJ: I'm glad there's at least one other person here who understands that.

@leo-j: As usual you're clueless. These numbers are derived from taking a sample of retailers, which never exactly represents the market as a whole. Sometimes the retailers in the sample sell less than the market average and sometimes they sell more, but on average the sample will represent the market average. As such, if you were inclined to guess what the real number was, your best guess would be what you extrapolated from your sample.

outlawauron (on 20 December 2007)

rath is making sense. Finding an average is the best decision.

Although, many here believed MC was the correct one. I better not see any flip-floppers.

  • 0
TWRoO (on 20 December 2007)

nice.

MC has been quite different to Famitsu for a few weeks now... but they used to be close to each other all the time.

  • 0
Rath (on 20 December 2007)

@leo-j

You do realise they are extrapolating and nobody actually receives all the data?

Neither are more accurate - I say take the middle ground. My estimates for the true values this week based on the three trackers are.

Wii ~ 170k
DS ~ 240k
PS3 ~ 67k
PS2 ~ 20k
PSP ~ 165k
360 ~ 9k

  • 0
leo-j (on 20 December 2007)

I say go with hiigher numbers, for all consoles. Because they arent making the numbers up. They are actually getting retail data.

  • 0
Imalwayswrong_Tyagi (on 20 December 2007)

Well obviously Wii Fit is supply constrained, if they could make enough they easily would have tripled John Lucas' first week prediction.

@ Soriku

LOL

  • 0
Sorrow880 (on 20 December 2007)

Surprised PSP's FF Crisis Core didn't show up on charts with the # of psp's sold...MH2 has much longer legs.

  • 0
Sorrow880 (on 20 December 2007)

Too close to give a WW winner between ps3 & 360...important thing is that they both sold well WW...
WOW to psp...
LOL, expected nothing less from Nintendo.

DMeisterJ (on 20 December 2007)

@ iclim4

This holiday is too close to call. The margin of error is greater than the difference (possibly) between the systems. It's a virtual tie.

  • 0
johnsobas (on 20 December 2007)

you don't completely believe either any week. They are both estimates.

  • 0
iclim4 (on 20 December 2007)

so if we go by MediaCreate's numbers, PS3 actually outsold the Xbox360.
weird...

  • 0
DMeisterJ (on 20 December 2007)

So who do we believe this week? Numbers are so different across all three.
