Masuda: Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! Are 'Core Pokémon Games'

Masuda: Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! Are 'Core Pokémon Games' - News

Some fans have viewed Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! as more of a spin-off title. However, director Junichi Masuda in a new interview has stated the games are not spin-offs, but are "core Pokemon games.

"These games aren’t spin-offs. These are core Pokemon titles," said Masuda.

"As for whether we would make other games that could connect to Pokemon GO, that will depend on how the games are received. If we hear a lot of people saying that they enjoyed being able to bring Pokemon to these games from Pokemon GO, then we’ll think about maybe having future titles also be able to connect to it."

Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are available now for the Nintendo Switch.

I'm new to Pokémon, and I'm absolutely loving this game. Can't believe I ignored the franchise all these years.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up Ultra Sun or Moon if you have 2/3DS. Remakes of Gold and Silver are also worth considering if you don't mind the graphics.

I bought my daughter Pokémon sun yesterday after she showed a lot of interest in let's go Pikachu. Needless to say she's hooked on it and daddy gets to borrow it after :)

It's not working with the borrowing. Pokemon games have classical only one save state and if you start a new playthrough, you lose all Pokemons.

Yeah you'd be better off buying Moon so you can trade with her.

Yeah, sure he says it is core not a spinoff. He wants to sell the game. But de facto it is one. It takes the franchises and do stuff differently. This is a spinoff. That is nothing bad though. And it is obviously a successful spinoff. So think of Let's Go as the Persona of the Pokemon series.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a spin-off. This is a main-line game with changes to the formula. Is Breath of the Wild a spin-off of the Legend of Zelda because it's different?

Breath of the Wild isn't, mainly because it has no core game coming a year later. As I said, Persona is a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei, is it really a bad thing to have a spin-off?

Atlus says Persona is a spin-off. Game Freak says Let's Go isn't. The official word is what decides it.

"Let's Go is the Persona of the Pokemon series". For some reason that phrase just sounds wrong to me.

I never thought of these 2 games as spinoffs, to me they were just remakes with a slightly different take.

The game is incredible. A pity that some are not going to play because they have a closed mind.

For years Pokemon has focused on the battle mechanics. This deviates from that to return to original mantra of Catch 'em all. You can't blame people for skipping the game when it's dumbed down their favourite feature.

I'm stoked about Let's Go. I think the end game could be bigger, but less grind made it the perfect Pokemon game for a person like me.

after playing it a good bit I agree. Ya the grind mechanics are different, but the core of the game is there.

I do prefer the old grind mechanics though. But the new mechanics work.

Let's Go is sorta the midpoint between a mainline entry and a full blown spin-off. Either way, there's nothing wrong with calling it a spin-off.

So that means the 2019 game will have similar gameplay?

With the exception of the overworld wild pokemon, god I hope not.

I wouldn't mind if the 2019 game took some inspiration from the detective pikachu movie... i want to see the fur on my electric mice!

They really are
after 30 hours i realized this game is everything i dreamed in a gen 1 remake, not being able to beat up weak wild pokemon is the worst excuse i ever heard from the people posting hate online.
i believe gen 8 will have many similarities to this entry in the series.
I legit only have 1 complaint so far in that the size of pokemon is not reflected when they are out of the pokeball so a 6 ft snorlax looks the same as a 10ft one while it carries you around. Other than that this game is over the top fun and i look forward to catching every pokemon which i used to not do since like gen 2.

There are also a lot of background mechanics that have been scrapped (ie EVs, abilities) that basically give the look that it has been dumbed down.
As its one of the key mechanics of the series this is why a lot of people are put off.

A lot of people put off? Its currently the fastest selling nintendo switch game ever

Mr.GameCrazy (on 02 December 2018)

It makes sense they would be called core games because they play just like the mainline games besides the Pokémon Go catching mechanic.
