Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! Sells Over 3 Million Units First Week - News

The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! sold over three million units first week worldwide. This is a record for the fastest-selling game on the Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! released for the Nintendo Switch on November 16.

To put that into context, of those VGC has data for: it’s below new generations (Sun and Moon sold 3.7m, X and Y sold 4.2m), but above other enhanced remakes (Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire sold 2.6m) and sequel games (Ultra sun and moon sold 2.1m)

I wouldn't worry shikamaru, those remake numbers are VGC numbers without digital. Assuming digital performance of around 15% in line with Nintendo's past digital sales, that would put Pokemon LGPE right in line with ORAS once you add in a digital estimate. Since the proper remakes have been getting progressively better sales, I'd say this would suggest Let's Go would just become another pillar in the Pokemon Company's lineup alongside them.

If they want to annualize Pokemon, which it seems like is the goal, they can't just have a cycle of mainline-3rdversion/sequel-remake, they need a bit more variety so that we're craving each link in the cycle as it comes, especially if console lifespans continue to get longer and they don't want to break the 2-gens-per-console rule. I'd expect 4th gen remake sometime in 2020 at this rate, 2021 if they decide to release the 3rd version/sequel to 8th gen just a year after the initial release. I'd be very surprised if they just decided to stop making something that has been making more money each time. Let's Go Gen 2 will come later.

Even more interesting than that is the game debuted ~1 million lower than X/Y in Japan so its performance in the west was on par with a new gen.

Oh yeah Pokemon LGPE is gonna do just fine. And if this is Pokemon's numbers and all signs point to Smash doing better...holy shit this will be one hell of a holiday for Nintendo. And then next year, with mainline Pokemon, dear God...

I'm strongly considering it. Reviews have been good, consensus seems to be that it adds a lot of good things to the series, but no one wants it to replace the mainline games. A few Youtubers I watch and even some of my own friends have said the catching mechanic is fun in its own right, they just want it to stay a Let's Go thing, not a series mainstay. It also makes catching shinies easier, makes getting perfect IVs easier, and finding the Pokemon you want easier too since you can see them on the overworld. Also seems like it might be good for getting a significant other into Pokemon since it's simpler and has co-op. It's too simple for people that play competitively or want a challenge, but actually better for people that want to catch 'em all and get the perfect version of every Pokemon, or just to enjoy the story, as supposedly the presentation of the story is better.
