Study: US Teens Think Xbox is Cooler Than PlayStation - News

A study done in the US commissioned by Google asked Generation Z, teenagers aged 13 to 17, what they think are the coolest brands. When it comes to gaming the Xbox is cooler than the PlayStation. They are in fourth and seventh places respectively.
However, when it comes to millennials, people 18 to 25, the PlayStation was thought as the cooler brand.
While Nintendo did not make the "coolest brands" list, The Legend of Zelda was the most popular video game franchise among teens. Call of Duty: Black Ops came in second, Grand Theft Auto in third, Pokemon in fourth, Minecraft in fifth, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in sixth.
The study was administered by YouGov and around 1,600 teenagers and 800 millennials were polled between May 2016 and July 2016.

It doesn't make for as good a headline, but it's worth noting that Xbox and PlayStation came within 1% of each other for both coolness and awareness (the former in favor of Xbox, the latter PlayStation). Given the sample size, i'd say their results were functionally identical on both fronts.
I'd like to point out these aren't global results. Instead, it's about US teens only. Says so on the first actual text page in the source.
Fascinating that Zelda beat CoD. Makes their decision to make sure Switch launched with Zelda a very good one. And Pokemon being in top 5 is also interesting.
Hojestly, if this pole shows anything, it's that Nintendo has the tools in their library to make their brand far more desirable as a whole.
But it did not beat CoD as a whole. It beat the Black Ops sub franchise ;-)
I mean, that is their key demographic.
I'd like to point out that hardly any of us made good decisions as teenagers.
I take this a US research since there is no way this results reflect the current marketshare except for US and UK where sales are pretty close.
Only surprise on this list for me is that "Legend of Zelda" is the most popular game franchise among teens. Seriously, some of them would have been like 8 years old the last time a new title hit consoles, and they don't appear to care about Nintendo otherwise.
Makes sense. My nephew and his friends all chose Xbone over PS4. i do wonder how many of Xbone buyers are below 18 compared to everyone else. OF course this is my experience in America.

No teenager thinks Nintendo is cool these days, mainly because Nintendo usually markets to really young children (5yearolds-11yearolds) However they can still own a Nintendo system like a 3DS or WiiU and like it
Considering how big the gap was in the US last gen between the 360 and PS3 this makes sense.

That is very interesting. I would have liked further research - do older gamers prefer the play station vs younger gamers who like xbox OR is it a case of as gamers grow up they move to PS from the xbox.
