DFC: PC Game Market to Reach $42B in Revenue by 2020 - News

The PC video game market will hit $42 billion in revenue by 2020, according to a report released by DFC Intelligence. PC game revenue increased 11 percent year-over-year in 2015 to $30 billion.

Retail sales of software games accounted for less than five percent, or $1.4 billion, of the total revenue in 2015.

"The biggest growth drivers of PC games are what DFC defines as core and moderate PC gamers. There are an estimated 300 million consumers worldwide that fit this definition," DFC said. "A major growth opportunity is among moderate gamers that are likely to become core gamers when they gain more disposable income. In many cases these are children being introduced to PC games at an early age. As these consumers grow, a major portion of them are expected to significantly increase their spending on both gaming hardware and software."

China for the eighth year in a row was the biggest region bringing in $12 billion in PC gaming revenue in 2015. That is a 20 percent increase year-over-year. The US is in second with a 10 percent increase in revenue in 2015 to $4.2 billion.

South Korea brought in $2 billion in PC gaming revenue, followed by Japan at $1.8 billion and Germany at $1.4 billion.

I think one of the best reasons to bring Xbox games to PC is the massive PC market outside the US and Europe. People are focused on potential Xbox sales lost, while ignoring the huge PC audience that now has access to Xbox games.

Nobody says that, its just a different market. Games that succeed on console generally aren't the same stuff doing great on PC.

Nobody says it towards consoles either and yet we see that being said on VGC every time we see a global chart/prediction from officials.

A ton of people said it when the Wii U flopped and expected the ps4 and x1 to follow. That's where the joke came from. It was fun times that and subsequently seeing the ps4 serve them all crow.

It's only going to grow bigger and on the other side it's not going to be just only from the stereotypical MMO's and Mobas.
